  1. Here's a big match 100 pt stages , I think between 200 -250 shooters (very low rnd count for a big match IMO, but that's me)

    10 stages

    round count

    Rifle 71

    Pistol 114 correction 123

    SG 81

Pistol is used on all 10 stages

    Rifle - 7

    SG - 7

Tell me how that is not a pistol biased match ?

I don't find any multi gun match to be 'pistol biased'. Sure it's easier to build round count by throwing more pistol targets into the match but the vast majority of the pistol shots in a match count far less (time wise) to your over-all score than either the ability to reload a shotgun or hit long range steel with a rifle.

  2. The magazine is over-inserting when doing slide lock reloads and jamming against the ejector, causing it to sit to high in the gun and blocks the slide from moving forward. The base plate of the magazine should hit the front of the frame at the bottom, that's what that little step at the bottom of the front strap is for. Either your frame has been modified so that it no longer stops the magazine or your mags have been modified so that they no longer hit this step.

  3. Do we need slugs?

    From post #58, per Dean...

Round counts are hard to estimate based on what team member shoots what gun on each stage. You will be safe with 15 slugs 150 rifle 150 pistol and 150 shot per man.

We play this safe on our team and will bring 25 slugs, 200 rifle, pistol and shot per team member. It's never a penalty to have too much ammo!

  4. I built a 5" 9mm in 2006 for IDPA, 3 Gun, Steel Challenge and the occasional USPSA match. A couple of years later I picked up all of the parts to build a 6" 40 top end for USPSA but put off building it because I was focusing on 3 gun and Steel Challenge. I shot a couple of USPSA matches last year and decided that I would have the 40 top end done in time for the VA/MD Section match this year. I got it done the week before the match and the gun worked great, even making major (barely, 165.9) with ammo that had failed in the 5" it was loaded for. After the match I sent it off to Metaloy for hard chrome.

Here's the gun with the 5" top end.

And the 6" 40 top end.

  5. I believe this is due to the Russian boycotts from the Malaysian plane being shot down over the Ukraine.........at least that will be the excuse

I don't think so. The boycott was announced one or two days before the airliner was shot down.

Just checked, Executive Order issued Wednesday, airliner shot down Thursday.

  6. I am not aware of any rules specific to three-gun that limit shot size, however, many clubs have size limits for safety reasons. I try to only use 7 1/2's as I have never seen a club ban those. 6's will definitely be a no-go at some ranges.

For hard set targets and spinners I usually carry two heavy loads to the match. For those clubs that have no restrictions I use Remington Nitro Pheasants, 1 3/8oz 6's at 1450fps. For matches that do have restrictions I have Remington Express Long Range, 1 1/4oz #7 1/2s at 1330fps.

  7. Two common but not often diagnosed issues. First, make sure the front of the disconector is not protruding into the magwell. Second, remove the sear spring and check about half way down it's length and insure that there is no rub mark indicating that the hammer strut is rubbing against it.

And as others have said, contact Brazos.

  8. Could any one tell me on any given stage what is the max round count we can expect for each of the guns?

I'm finalizing my gear and want to make sure I can carry all my needed ammo (especially since I shoot a single stack 1911).

    Thanks

If past years are any indication I would say 1 extra rifle mag, 1 extra pistol mag (3 for single stack), and 8 extra shot shells should be plenty. Unless there is another all shotgun stage (fun!) then you need to have as many shot shells as possible. Last years match at Peacemaker had a 54 round all shotgun stage.

My best advice is bring plenty of extra of everything!

  9. Have you tried to remove the LCI in that gun yet? Reason why I ask is that on my Cobalt LITE the LCI pin seems to be driven in. No magnet or any of the other techniques listed on this forum or other forums works to get it out. I have removed several LCI's from the steel models and even the black LITE model but I think short of driving the pin out mine wont budge. Just curious what yours is like.

I have heard this. There are a couple of threads about it on Rimfire Central. As it turns out I guess I got lucky. When disassembled the pin in my gun was slightly above flush in it's hole. The pin lifted right out with no problems at all.

  10. The nice thing about any 22 comp is that it is very easy to compare performance. The simple screw on / screw off design allows for simple side by side comparisons. With the lack of recoil in all 22 pistols it's really the 'cleanliness' of the dot movement I'm looking for when comparing one comp to another. The less the vertical rise the better, the less the dot dips below it's starting point the better. Straight up and down movement is better than a dot that vibrates left and right a lot. With the very low recoil of the 22 it is easy to see all of this movement when comparing comps. Impact in the hand is really the least of my concerns, but there are minor differences there also.

The recoil is so low that all of them work to some extent, but side by side, some are better than others, at least a little bit. And with most 22 comps selling for $30 to $80 it's not a budget buster to try a bunch of them.

  11. My new Ruger. Added the TacSol comp I took off my pink gun and put on a set of VZ thin grips I had. I've ordered a VQ trigger kit, Tandemkross spacer to remove the loaded chamber indicator and a mag safety removal bushing from MadMacs. I haven't decided yet but I will also most likely add a Burris FFIII.

  12. I am greatly irritated. I spent ten or fifteen minutes on the phone discussing things with Hatchet (the OP) and why I thought the new Ruger 22/45 Lite was a great choice as the base for a Steel Challenge/NSSF pistol. I don't know if I convinced him to buy one, but I went out and bought one today! Just because I need another .22, not!

    Pics to follow.

  13. That was not me at the PPSC. I hit all the slug steel with only 1 miss, but missed about 15% of the skeet targets. And there were a lot more of those than slug steel.

You sound pretty set in your opinion, and I'm assuming you must use sights if you don't like a front bead. And I'm set in mine. I like seeing my rib and bead for trap targets

If by set in my opinion you mean that I believe hitting a slug target at 90 yards without sights is a harder shot than hitting an aerial target with sights on the gun then yes you are correct.

My point is that most shooters will benefit from a rear sight on a shotgun meant for three gun. I shot fiber-optic and mid bead for years on my 1100 CM and had little trouble hitting steel out to 115 yards (longest slug shot I ever had to take in a match). But when I switched to the Versa I added a rear sight. My accuracy isn't really much greater, but the speed to which I can apply that accuracy is much faster. For true shotgun shots the sights aren't used. It's gun fit and both eyes open, looking at the targets that equal fast, accurate hits.

On another note, your review was very informative and I liked it.

    Sights:

VersaMax has a huuge green fiber optic which I love. I'm not the biggest fan of the V notch mid/rear sight. It obstructs the bead while shooting trap for me. I'll be trying the taller comb soon and might change my opinion.

??? Maybe because it's not a Trap gun?
