  1. Kurt, I was just poking fun. :) My first 3 gun was at the Interlake Rod and Gun Club in Renton, WA way back in 1985. While you and I may have been doing this forever there are many who are just starting out and one of the most amazing things about the internet is how it allows new shooters (or anyone new to any activity) to access the experience of those experts who wish to share it. You are correct that you don't need a pistol sub-forum, but honestly, you don't need any of these forums, if anything, the forums need you, and your experience gained in your 25 years of competition.

As for the "professed expert" on the internet, all forums have this problem. However, the more specific the forum, the easier it is to see who the true experts are. Try to learn about 3 gun on AR15com or The High Road or any other general firearms forum and caveat emptor, but spend an hour reading here and it becomes pretty apparent who the knowledgable members are. Is a Pistol sub-forum needed? No, but it would be helpful to a lot of people and I don't think adding it would effect anything or anyone in a negative manner. Just my two cents, earned over the last 30 years or so.

  2. There's nothing wrong with having a 3 gun pistol specific link in the forum, and it would be helpful for new shooters with specific equipment questions. Sure, they could ask them in in the Technical Forum, but better, quicker and more specific answers could be found here in this forum if there where a pistol section. Also this sub-forum would act as a repository for 3 gun specific pistol questions that would get quickly lost in the 1911 & Factory Pistol sub forums in the Technical Forum. A 3 Gun Pistol sub-forum hurts no one, has the potential to help new shooters and gets in the way of nothing. It's a good idea.

  3. For a Benelli? Italian Gun Grease, of course!

The CAS folks used to talk about their Uberti repro guns coming lubed with "Olive Oil" :goof:

Seriously... use some lube...Mobil 1, Breakfree CLP, etc, ,,,kinda like Kurt mentioned something is better than nothing

I once lubed a Beretta 92 with Windex. It actually worked!

  4. Round count per person......we need all the help we can get so bring 175 rounds per team! This will help out standings for sure! Bwah ha ha.

Look at it this was: 175/3 shooters is 58.3 rounds per shooter. That leaves 58.3/8 stages so you only will have 7.28 rounds to shoot per stage.

Round count is per person. Bring extra!

The listed round count is per team, not per person.

Dean said 175 pistol +175 rifle +175 shot +10 slugs. That equals 535 rounds for the team, divided by 8 stages equals 66.8 rounds per stage.

That said, since you can not be sure who will be shooting what on each state we always bring the max round count, per person. Better to finish the day with lots of left over ammo, than to be scrambling at the end.

  5. Hey, try it already! If it doesn't work out you can always put a blank in the dove tail slot and drive on! Hell you can even drill and tap the blank for a mid rib bead again...no down side. Quit treating your shotgun like it is an altar, it is a tool that can, and will, over it's life time, be hacked on tuned up and ultimately destroyed

  6. My son loves his, and he hit the 450 yard target at Bushmaster Tarheel with it. Once you know your hold overs, or what the distances the hash marks in your scope are in relation to the load your using, hitting at distance just becomes a matter of practice.

  7. A 9 round tube is a bad idea if you are going to be loading duces or quads. An even number of shells in your hand, and an odd number in the tube, means you'll often be left holding one round that won't fit in the gun. Also with a loaded chanber start you can load two more after the buzzer. I tried 9+ when I got my VM but quickly changed to 10+, it just works better.
