Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Hi, Welcome to the forum!! I lived in Jacksonville for a few years and have lots of friends around the Orlando and St. Cloud area. I'm usually down there once a year shooting a match or two. SR9Shooter
  2. Well all, It has been a rocky 3 seasons of IPSC/USPSA shooting thanks to our lovely government, this recession, and having a few extra mouths to feed and bodies to clothe sure made it difficult to be able to afford to shoot. But this time I have finally done it and have found myself finally classified in production. All be it I'm just a "D" class shooter, but I'm hoping with a lot more practice to hopefully make "C" class next year. I am going to be shooting my last match for the season this weekend and am really looking forward to putting something other than "Unclassified" on my score sheet. SR9Shooter
  3. Welcome Aboard!! I have a lot of friends in the area of Versailles and Lexington which it sounds to me like you're pretty close to them there. With me living in PA right now its hard to get to see them as much as I want to, but we always have fun when we pull out the pistols and sending rounds down stage. Enjoy the sport, have fun, be safe and keep shooting. SR9Shooter
  4. +1 to what G-man and everyone else is saying. Go to a local match, check it out, and someone will more than likely let you borrow a gun. The guys that shoot these types of events are all great, even most of the pros. I remember when I started shooting in 2008 my local club held the 2008 Area 8 Championship. I remember going and spectating and helping out. At that match I was talking to Travis Tomassie for almost an hour and it was just like talking to a good friend. There are some pros though in the sport that are pricks and snobs, but for the most part everyone you'll meet is great. Just remember the main part of the shooting sports is to have fun, keep shooting, and be safe. SR9Shooter
  5. I started out shooting production and am still shooting production but thinking of making a run at Limited-10 with my Ruger SR9(9mm). I love the Ruger because it doesn't matter if it's reloads that you loaded yourself or dirty Wolf ammunition it will feed, fire, and eject it all with no problems. I have 10,000 rounds through my carry gun(old competition gun) and about 1000 through the new SR9 I bought and every round fired without any problems, burps, or hiccups whatsoever. Also the Ruger is very versatile to shoot as far as grip size. My girlfriend and my niece and nephew who all have small tiny hands can shoot it very accurately. Also the Ruger is very close to the Glock in many aspects so there are options as to customizing it. Like in November I'm planning on putting a Ghost trigger and a Hi-Viz fiber optic front sight on it. I really enjoy this gun and for the money you can't beat it. I haven't started reloading yet, don't have the room, but someday I will and I have plenty of brass to start. In the meantime I'm shooting 115gr FMJ WWB out of it with no problems. SR9Shooter
  6. Welcome to the forums!! Have fun and keep on shooting! SR9Shooter
  7. The way I see it if you aren't having fun, you're not doing it right. There is so much fun to be had while shooting to worry about other things in life. I got in with my local club helping them set up for matches and stuff like that, that even while I couldn't afford to shoot matches I made so many friends and had so much fun with the staff of my local club that I would find myself going to help out even though I couldn't shoot just to be around them. 8. Welcome to the forum from Southwestern PA!! I have family that live and shoot around Houston and will be going to spend a few weeks with them next summer so I can shoot some of the matches there maybe I'll see you in the Summer of 2011. SR9Shooter
  9. What's up GunOneDown? So you're a Glock shooter huh? I promise not to hold that against you, just kidding. I have nothing against Glock shooters or their products really, but I prefer my Ruger SR9. I have kids that I'm teaching to shoot so I like the fact that I have an external thumb safety. The only thing I don't like about Glocks are the fact that the only safety is not pulling the trigger basically. Other than that I think the Glocks are a great competition piece especially in production division in USPSA. I also like my SR9 for a lot of the same reasons that make the Glock a great piece because it is like a Glock with Ruger's Made in the USA reliability and external safety. SR9Shooter
  10. I have a Nikon D90 with 18-105 VR, 55-200 VR, and 35 f1.8 for right now, but thanks to school loan refunds I'm going to be able to get a Nikon D300s, Tamron 70-200 f2.8, Tamron 28-75 f2.8, and all the goodies that goes with all of that. What kind of camera do you use? SR9Shooter
  11. Welcome to the forum Neil, That sounds like a pretty nice setup you have there! I'm also pretty good at photography and working on getting my own business up and running. I also am the photographer for my local club photographing all of our USPSA matches. SR9Shooter
  12. Hi Y'all, I was wondering if anyone uses the Blackhawk Serpa Holsters in USPSA and could offer any tips on not getting caught up during the draw. I have used Blackhawk holsters in the past but they weren't the Serpa versions but have recently switched to the Serpa holster for my Ruger SR9. My problem is that I"m forgetting to press the button to release the gun. Does anyone have any tips or drills that they do to not get caught up on the draw like this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. SR9Shooter
  13. I started out with a Blackhawk instructor belt for shooting production while it was a good quality belt I wanted something stiffer. I just got my new Double Alpha in the mail yesterday and I love it. I won't shoot anything else from now on. The Blackhawk is still a good belt, it held everything in place I just didn't like how lax it was. I'm still shooting production, but am considering jumping to Limited-10 and possibly sometime in the future Limited. SR9Shooter
