  1. Had one for awhile. I spend alot of time shooting long range steel, often times just seeing how far I can hit with iron sights or no/low power optic setups. For the same reason, dialing capability, I tried out the lucid optic. You can "dig" out the epoxy/goo that they fill in the set turret set screws with, so you can zero the turrets, gotta be somewhat careful to not damage the threads, I think they were 1.5mm allen set screws. I remember the adjustments were nowhere near .5 moa or whatever they claimed, they were MUCH more per click. From a 100yd zero to 700yds it only took like 6 clicks of elevation to hit, it should have taken around 26moa of adjustment for the particular load (+52 clicks). Not sure what the deal was with that, it held zero ok, but I sold it to a guy that was looking for one locally and didn't care about the increments. They seem like solid, rugged feeling units. Noticeable dark blue tint to the glass.
  2. Vortex said moa/moa 1-4 HS now, but may also do a mil/mil depending on demand, prolly 2012 if a demand for it.
  3. No, it doesn't. Got it out in bright sunlight, what little we had lately, and on 10 the red illumination fades away pretty good. Still works great just black, but not a bright as I had hoped, as they claim it is "daylight-visible" (I guess technically it is visible, but not eotech bright). The 1 thru 4 settings are barely visible indoors, almost need your night eyes to see, good for when using in very lowlight. Setting 5 jumps up to a tad too bright for lowlight use, but dimly visible in normal daylight. The rest are like midrange aimpoint bright I guess, 10 being about the same as my aimpoint 2 levels below max.
  4. He says its an American Defense mount. I have one that has a Vortex logo on it and the American Defense name too Yes, AD ext scout 2 lever mount. Finally got out to the range with it and the new rifle (dpms 3G1), am satisfied with both, they performed nicely so far. Running federal XM193 55gr right now. The reticle is sweet, able to place shots on 10" plates way out. Using the reticle for holdovers was easy, even though they are kinda fine, at least they don't cover anything up. Scope tracked and returned to zero great, no hang ups dianling down, very precise, ran it up/down/left/right quite a bit between shots with no variance. We got 18" of snow at home today, ran to the range real quick to get data at distances and kinda see how the set up would do, only had about an hour to fire: some @ 500yds, dialed several mil left/right/up/down between shots here: few at 600, *holding over w/reticle, 4mil: few at 700 reticle pic, 1000yds 4x (+2x mag on cell): 1000yds Pass the pizza hut on the way home, complete with hitchin- rail/buggy-parking out front: pizza hut pic buggies Got a few moments of bright sunshine yesterday, the claimed "daylight visible" reticle washes out to prettymuch nothing, tried a new battery just in case it may have been an old one. The design of the reticle does really well in bright sunlight though, without the illumination. Was hoping it would be brighter, since they are marketing it as "daylight visible".
  5. Looks like they got one for the capped turret fans also SWFA "HS" vipers Got it all set up in an american defense ext scout mount, very nice mount. Eye relief on the scope is tremendously friendly. Tough to get much time behind it until the weekend to see if it actually does its job. Just read about Jerry Miculek being sponsored by Vortex now.
  6. Been waiting for one of these for quite some time now! Stopped home for lunch, took some quick pics of the reticle(mrad version), pics are thru a double pane window with a junk camera, didn't have much time here, (wind & snow): 1x, steel tombstone target 300yds thru the kitchen window 4x, same steel target 300yds 4x, same steel target 300yds w/illum 4x, tree 75yds 1x, woods 50yds, w/illum Turrets have impressively strong and consistent detent, yet are smooth to turn, didn't have much time to mess with it. Seems truly 1x @1x, with both eyes open there is no double image or eye strain, also no goggle eye effect when scanning. The scopemount won't be here til tomorrow. It seems as close to a "winner" as I've been able to find, for what I do(coyote calling, banging steel, some rifle matches, etc). I like the reticle, in that it doesn't clutter up around the center dot. Seems to have Very forgiving eye relief. The illumination isn't as bright as I expected, but it is pretty bright, it does go superbly LOW for lowlight use. There is a major change in illumination from like setting 5 and lower. The settings go from basically only visible in-the-dark to ultra dim. Highest setting is a few notches below an eotech or aimpoint on they're highest level. The vertical and horizontals are slightly illuminated in lowlight
  7. If you're used to moa and think in "moa" , that might be the way to run. With the adjustments matching the reticle, either way will be better than a mismatched reticle vs adjustments. Just ordered a 1-4 pst today, in mrad (mil/mil). Been running a mil/mil scope for about a year now on my bolt gun, the matching reticle & adjustments has been very nice compared to all my previous scopes that had mil-dots w/moa adjustments, no math, just dial what you see. Called around quite a bit, today was the day that many dealers recieved they're pst's from vortex. Cameraland, opticsplanet, liberyoptics, cstactical, etc.
  8. No adjustable gas block. I wonder if the rifle in the above post just needed the gas block position adjusted. Just spent some time getting one just right with a new gas block on an AR, when it was not right it had the same symptoms. With the .750 gas block pushed on the barrel until it stopped, it was about 3/16" too far rearward (could see the carbon circle was darn near off the gas port all together), moved it 3/16" foward and it runs and throws spent casings like a champ now.
  9. Mine came with the tac latch, ambi-safety, 3.5# JP trigger and the big plastic case/box. Didn't know that the latch and ambi-safety were optional.
  10. I rescind my suggestion to look at an arsenal ak74 as an option. I guess sometimes it takes dealing with a company's customer service to find out they're true colors!
  11. Just got my first arsenal SGL-31 a couple days ago, not exactly cheap. As far as AK's go, aside from a custom build, they are dandy rigs. Gonna have fun with it for sure, really digging this 5.45 deal! Zero recoil, surprisingly accurate and cheap to shoot even with non-corrosive ammo.
  12. Went to install a midwest-industries flip-up front sight on the gas block of mine today, but it would not tighten onto the gasblock. The sight clamps down firmly on several weaver/picatinny bases I have laying around, so I guess the gasblock is not to spec? Measures like .006 narrower than the other bases, the sight would not even remotely snug up at all, wobbles side to side.
  13. Just got one today, unfortunately it has some issues. Seems to actually be under 1x at 1x setting, it makes things appear further away and smaller (pretty obvious). It also has bad goggle'eyed effect when moving around or scanning set on 1x also. On a good note, the illumination is fantastic, goes from dim to very very daylight bright!
  14. Picked up a 3G1 this afternoon, just showed up at the store a couple days ago. Just sold/shipped my elcan optic, and have been doing seemingly endless research on 1-4x scopes for the past week. Looked at a burris xtr, thought about a tac30, who know's what trijicon has up they're sleeve, swfa SS 1-4's look very promising, vortex is real close to shipping they're 1-4's. Looks like I'll be missing my annual christmas week coyote hunts this season, at least with the new rifle
  15. Muscle memory, a plain black ameriglo rear sight with skinny ameriglo tritium front is working out pretty good for me, for lowlight shooting, so far. Kyle Defoor series, from ameriglo.
  16. Transitioned from H4350 to RL17 w/berger hunting vld's, excellent results year round out to 1k.
  17. Over the course of several years, in different guns (G17, G22, G34/35 & M&P 9&.40), have had FTE's with mainly wolf steel cased ammo, quite a few times in the M&P's. Round fires and the case stays in the chamber, unable to eject with multiple tries, have to rod the case out. See the same with the steel cased rifle ammo in ar's/sig556s/etc.
  18. Trying to decide on a new 1-4x optic. Did some searching here, found some posts that say the burris 1-4x xtr has daylight visible illumination and some posts that say otherwise? Maybe the first generation ones are different than gen 2's? What I consider daylight visible would be closer to the brightness of a aimpoint or eotech, useable "dot" in SUNNY/BRIGHT daylight conditions. Don't know of anyone with one to look at, nor are there any in local shops. Currently have a leatherwood cmr 1-4, the illuminated reticle fades out when really bright out, but seems bright on dull/gloomy days. Looking for something different to try.
  19. Any feedback on the lowest levels of illumination with these scopes? I have a Leatherwood cmr right now, it goes ultra low which works excellent during lowlight use, wondered about this tac30. (*rifle serves as match & calling rifle).
  20. Really like the warren tactical sights, notched sides w/non-outlined dim-yellow rear dots, thin white outlined green front dot, great for duty/defense/match use, imo.

    Ruger LCP

Bought one to replace my kahr 380 that had issues. The LCP printed very nice groups, hits exactly on point-of-aim. The trigger took getting used to, but is non-issue now (is just a long double like pull). Very happy with it, reliable so far and a fun shooter. Bought a spare, it works just as well, shoots to point of aim, both amaze me with they're accuracy (even at 25 yards). The magazine finger extension makes all the difference in the world for me (size 12 hands). Without it, I could hardly keep the pistol in my hand, prettymuch fumbled follow-ups. Good to go with the grip extension!
  22. Have used a dremel and file to smooth over those glock-knuckling edges under the trigger guard. Didn't take near as much off as in the pics earlier in the thread, but rounded/smoothed just enough where it's tough to notice and actually halts further knuckle grinding issues from long shooting sessions.
  23. Switched to a FFP mil/mil falcon scope this past spring on my steel shooting rig. Has been a great scope that gets ALOT of use, dialing up and down the 1000 yard range. Much nicer than the mismatched mildot with moa knobs I had been running previously. It has been a suprisingly good scope, excellent reticle, tracks perfect, just not a lowlight performer.

    Glock 34 accuracy

Off a notched wood block/rest, 5 shot groups at 25yds with value pack or wolf ammo, average under 2".
  25. Recently got one. The trigger was pretty nasty, comparing to any other AR I've owned (*around 12 various brands). Did a quick dremel polish job on it and it was transformed to as good or better than any other factory ar trigger I've had......took like 5 minutes to do. Only have a couple hundred rounds through it now, about half running with aac m4 can. Had a wolf case rim crack off where the ejector grabs it, leaving a case stuck in the chamber.......rod'd it out and was back in business (done with wolf, thats the 4th or 5th stuck case in various rigs now). Accuracy has been as good or better than all my previously owned ar's. Came with my favorite troy sights, the rails "line up" and it shoots to point of aim with the rear sight centered. Effortlessly rang steel at 100, 200 & 300 last night at the range and let a couple other folks run some mags through it with the can. Have not run a optic on it, open sights only. Overall, I'm impressed with the setup, the feel and function so far....time will tell. Had read somewhere about ruger's first 556's having a bolt carrier more prone to tilt issue than the more recent ones.
