  1. 335 with 1-5 round magazine for the conversion . It was another 35.00 to inlet the stock . You would have to contact George on if it will fit other stocks as well but I dont see why not . I will get some pics of the conversion tomorrow and post them .
  2. Here is my new rifle from GAP with the brand new Badger Detachable Magazine in place . I was one of the first 2 or 3 to recieve one since my rifle was at GAP being rebuilt when they arrived so I had him go ahead and install it . As soon as Magazines make it to the U.S. 10 rounders will be readily available for about half the price of H.S. Precision magazines .
  3. I think that would be considered an Open gun by cowboy standards ?
  4. I know what you mean about GAP USC . He is currently rebarreling a rifle for me as well as installing the Badger Detachable Bottom Metal . I just would like someone closer to home and I have a friend who lives near Shawn that feels the same way . Just trying to get a feel for how well he builds rifles as I know he is a Shotgun guru as many in the 3-Gun world can attest to.
  5. I know Shawn Carlock is pretty popular with the shotgun crowd but was wondering if anyone has had him build a tactical or MOR style rifle ? Good , Bad or indifferent I am curious as he is far more local to me than Texas or Mississippi . If you would like feel free to e-mail me your experiences at paraman1ATcableoneDOTnet (replace ATwith @ and DOT with .) Thanks in advance for any help .
  6. Thats where I kept them until I bought a gun safe . Kept them high enough that the kids couldnt get at them and when I was getting ready to go to a match the weapons were right there and my gearbag was stowed below the workbench .
  7. Here is my old setup . Rem 1100 special purpose cut down to 23 inches with all the usual goodies , Bushmaster AR with carbon fiber free float tube , Jard trigger , Armalite scope mount , Badger Tac-latch , Stainless match barrel and a Bushnell 3-9X40 scope , and a Springfield Armory Operator .
  8. Figured it out . I bought this as a dispenser/scale combo . They both have there own AC adapters which are not interchangeable . Just swapped them and the problem dissapeared .
  9. Anybody experience a problem with their Pact digital scale not holding a zero ? Mine was working good yesterday and today it is wandering by as much as 6 grains ! I know these things are sensitive to temp changes and need to be on a level surface but this is getting ridiculous . I have used it twice since I bought it and both times it has been finicky and tempermental .
  10. One big difference between MOR and Sniper matches is the addition of a spotter . On a high round count course of fire the spotter can load your rounds into the rifle for you rather than having to try and do it yourself while staying on the rifle . With a little practice its a sub second routine . The spotter can also help keep you on track during a COF by keeping track of round count and spotting hits and misses as well as providing correctional input .
  11. My wifes call center job at HP was outsourced to India . I take it personally now when I get someone who barely speaks english when I call tech-support now .
  12. I shoot with both eyes open rifle , shotgun , pistol and even scoped rifle . The only time it has ever bothered me is at Tactical rifle matches when I was set up in some brush and the wind was blowing . The weeds and brush swaying back and forth in the wind seemed to really cause me problems when I could see it with my non-shooting eye .
  13. Uunfortunately no-one knows what the price will be at this time . I am guessing it will be comparable to the Badger bottom metal which runs around 300 bucks . Here is a picture of the prototype on an A5 McMillan stock . As I understand it , the release lever is undergoing some design changes to shorten it but still remain easy to use .
  14. The Badger Ordnance Bottom metal was unveiled at the Shot show on one of GA Precisions rifles that was built for the guy that runs the Snipershide website . It has yet to be released but is slated for sometime this summer . You can get on a waiting list through GA Precision to get one of the first ones built which if you are interested would be a good idea as McMillan has preorderered several thousand of the units which is going to mean that it will probably be Fall of this year before the rest of us mere mortals will see them . The Badger Ordnance setup is way more stout than the H.S. Precision setup and 10 round mags are 63 dollars versus 120 bucks for the H.S. I am on the list and waiting with baited breath .
  15. Sorry , Zak is right . I got those suckers backwards .
  16. Having used both the M1 and M3 I like the M3 better when you need pinpoint accuracy and the M1 for speed . Its always a compromise and not a very good one at that . At a match last year they had a Medulla shot at 100 yards , the guys with the M1 played hell getting on a 1/2 MOA spot on the target . I was using my 22-250 with 1/8th MOA knobs and shot really well . Unfortunately , if I had needed to make any adjustments quickly I would have been hosed .
  17. I have been nailed by the SKYPE.NET and the W-P internet hosting one in the last 3 months . It has been a pain getting my credit card company to deal with it . They send me paperwork , I fill it out , they say they never got it and put the charges back on my account . Just curious but does anyone besides me here have a Paypal account ? I am wondering if thats where my info got taken from as I cancelled my first card and when I got the new one I updated my Paypal account and then the second one showed up . Ipulled the info from my account and changed my password so hopefully that helps .
  18. Peragon Enterprises, Inc. , the company that sells an aluminum folding truck bed cover, has substandard Customer Service. While their product looks to be the top of the line bed cover, it has many flaws that the company does not respond to. Note the center area at the rear of the cover. There WAS a nylon pull strap there. It was attached with nothing more than a screw through it, into the cover. No reinforcement eye, or any strengthening device. It failed within four weeks of purchase. The securing hardware failed at several points due to non locking nuts. The movement of the cover, which is supposed to facilitated by a simple downward push at the cab, has never worked correctly. I only place this information here, after my phone calls, and e-mails have gone unanswered after several attempts. In my frustration, I have removed the offending cover, and replaced it with a Leer Yakima Top, at the wife's request("Get that POS off MY truck right NOW!") Matt at Paragon (218)281-8057 was my initial contact. His Follow Up leaves a lot to be desired. If I ran my business like this, I would be dead within a few months. The dealer who I had install the cover, now refuses to work with them further. He has had too many complaints to warrant dealing with them, so I know we are not the only ones who feel this way. If you are considering a folding truck bed cover, LEAVE THIS ONE OFF YOUR CONSIDERATION LIST!
  19. My wife and I lived through 12 years of cutbacks and layoffs at HP with the final straw being the Compaq merger . We moved around the U.S. so that my wife could stay with HP and even then she was always riding the leading edge of the next wave of layoffs . Lew Platt was bad but Carly made him seem pretty tame . I must say that when I got up this morning and saw that the BOD was finally tired of her and she was leaving , I did a little dance . My wife was pretty happy too which is funny since neither of us work there anymore but it was nice to see her leave a company that used to be one of the greatest on earth to work for and is now just another corporation because of her .
  20. You can also order the 168 Nosler J4 directly from Nosler . I think it was 135 bucks shipped for 1000 when dad and I ordered them last time (we ordered 2K so we may have saved some money that way).
  21. I have never shot IDPA (more because of a lack of a place to do it than a lack of wanting to do it) but have seen the tension that exists and is fostered between the 2 disciplines . I have never been in a gunfight but started shooting competitively when I got my CCW to learn better gun handling skills . I shot frequently with Jim Wall in the beginning and saw first hand what someone who put in the time could do using a POS pistol and a IWB holster . It got me to thinking that what was more important than the competition itself was what you took away from it . If your goal was to become more proficient with a CCW weapon and holster than bring it out and practice with it . Any gun handling is GOOD gun handling if you learn something from it but it is not going to guaruntee you anything in a gunfight . My father was a Marine in Viet Nam , a bouncer and a body guard and was in numerous gunfights . He told me that you never know what you are going to do or how you are going to react in a gunfight until you get there . All you can do is practice and make certain gun handling skills instinctive rather than having to think about them . Hopefully during the immense amount of stress that you will be under in a gunfight that instinct will give you the edge . I guess my point to all this rambling is that whether you shoot IDPA or IPSC , dont try convincing yourself that one is better than the other but take it for what it is and enjoy it . Either one of the disciplines is good practice for gun handling skills but no guaruntee of success in a fight . Remember , the best thing to have in a gunfight , is a gun . The rest of it will play out however its going to play out and all you can do is train for the worst and hope for the best . Thats my .02
  22. Check out the Tactical Interventions Sling . I use the Quick Cuff on my Tactical bolt gun and it works very well .
  23. One problem with USPSA is the fact that they have a class for EVERYTHING ! I am probably alone in saying this but I dreaded awards cermonies due to the '"Best Junior Senior shooter wearing a black shirt shooting a super ubermagnum from South of the mason dixon" awards . I know they feel it is needed to draw in new shooters but I think that we as shooters need to bring the equipment we can afford or already have and do the best you can . Shooting is the one sport for me where I have always felt it was me against me and really didnt care how it all played out in the end . I try and build my gear so I can use it in as many competitons as possible and avoid the gun built for one style of match . I guess thats why I have always liked limited since if you didnt want to get caught up in the arms race but had a high cap pistol / AR / Shotgun you could have a lot of fun .
  24. If you are looking to save money you should hit the Tactical websites,"For Sale" sections . I picked up this Rem 700 VSSF in .308 with a fully adjustable H-S Precision PST25 , Badger base and Rings and a Leupold 6.5-20 LR Mildot scope for 1600 bucks . This is a 3 shot group at 100 yards from my first outing with the rifle using handloaded 168 Grain Nosler J4's , Fed. 210M primers and 44.5 grains of Varget . I just picked up an H-S precision Detachable Magazine setup for 150 bucks used with a 4 round mag and will be buying some 10 rounders after the first of the year . My point being is that you dont have to put off sending the kids to college to have a competitive rifle . I set a course record in Wenatchee Washington at a 600 yard Highpower match with this rifle by shooting a 1197-78X over 2 days setting right alongside some extremely expensive (4-10K) rigs .
  25. Terry was using bullets in the 140 grain range . I cant remember which one exactly but you can e-mail him at kmw308@aol.com and ask him . I believe he was having grief at the Rifles Only match and that his comment was more along the lines of that it wasnt taking down the steel as well as he would like . If you feel the need for a flatter shooting .308 you can always use the 155 grain Matchkings . 3000 fps with a .45 BC and easy to lay your hands on components.
