  1. Our range design forces us to shoot 4 stages on a shared line. The debate between 2 CROs is the term “single location.” I shoot Single Stack and say that a shooting location even if it is 10 feet long is a single location. The other CRO says if you can see all the targets and move within the area to reload, it is not a single location. Thoughts? 1.2.1.3 “Long Courses” in Level III or higher matches must not require more than 32 rounds to complete. Course design and construction must not require more than 8 scoring hits from any single location or view, nor allow a competitor to shoot all thx jon
  2. My Single Stack pistol is an extremely abused 5 year old Colt originally one of the Gunsite runs. I was doing slow fire drills with friends on Saturday and all the hits were into one hole, an inch low at 10 feet. Friends tried the gun with the same result. Ammo was factory S&B and Blazer. The sights are fixed. Fiber Optic in the front has been there about 2 years. I’ve never noticed this before, but can’t remember ever really shooting this slow for accuracy. Took the gun to a well known USPSA smith and GM shooter, and his comment was that it wasn’t worth fixing for that small a difference and that when I speed up I would be seeing and shooting the fiber optic (not the black top) which would raise the POI. Any thoughts on this…..leave it alone as suggested, or get a perfectly fitted front sight? TIA jon
  3. If I remember correctly any PSP (technically wrong name) will fit a M8 or M13 holster.an 8 or 13 will not fit a HK "PSP" holster.
  4. I started using grips from 10-8 last year. It is sweaty in the Florida summers and they give me a firm grip without ripping my hands apart. I've added the grips to my carry guns which are next to my skin with zero issues. Believe they are made for 10-8 by VZ. http://www.10-8performance.com/ For honesty, I also squad at USPSA matches with Hilton which is how I came across the grips.
  5. Once pasters melt themselves into the Magwell it is brutal to clean them out. I understand pasters stuck to my wallet as it is in the same back pocket as I stick a strip of pasters after a stage. I understand pasters getting stuck to my shirt by fellow shooters entertaining themselves. But, how do Pasters get into the Magwell? Perhaps they attach themselves to magazines and hop a ride. I don’t know.
  6. Been using the Wahl Peanut for the last decade. Skip the plastic, metal brings you down to the didn't shave yesterday look. Takes 5 minutes to trim head and beard. They last about 2 years then die suddenly so I always keep an extra around. http://www.amazon.com/Wahl-Professional-8685-Classic-Clipper/dp/B00011K2BA
  7. I was CRO for a Match and RO’ing a stage. Real nice guy, maybe 3 or 4th time out came to the line without his gun. Reminded that the stage works better with a pistol he walked back to his bag, I knew a split second before what he was going to do and yelled “Nooooo..” But, too late as he started coming back to the line with his pistol in his hand. The DQ was my fault. A good RO should be able to anticipate what is going to happen.
  8. We have a guy like that in our club. He is negative and loud. It took a while to realize that this was the only way, and probably place, he got people to pay attention. Generally I politely ignore him. Sometimes I ask him to stop or be quiet, he always does when asked. The guy knows what he is doing, talk to him like a man and hope he responds.
  9. No offense taken. I've been a USPSA CRO for 10 years and often the RM. My view: if a person has had a dangerous DQ, it is a good idea to take the day off.
  10. Depends…..I attended an IDPA event about 2 years ago. The shooter started facing up range turned drew his gun, or drew his gun and turned, then put a round about 3 inches from his toes, he proceeded to fire 6 more shots before being stopped. He was DQ’d and returned to help run shooters. Wrong.... I made it clear that HE was not going to be running shooters that day.
  11. Nik: thx for the move OK..i get and agree with the responses. 2nd half of the question was. Short buzzer goes off and you take the first shot. Is there any valid legitimate legal non whiney way to restart? thx jon
  12. I’ve always understood that there is some break between standby and the buzzer. 8.3.3 How do you handle it when the RO has it as one sound? A few years ago I had a M shooter flip out on me after blowing a stage at a totally unimportant club match when I must have done it to him. I’ve had “stanbybeep” happen to me a lot recently. When you are wired in, it is hard to stop going ahead and taking that first shot. IF I stop after the first shot, as the shooter, could I refer to 8.3.3? 8.3.3 actually says “within” 1 second. Could that also legally be a zero gap between standby and the buzzer? TIA jon NOTE: edit this should have been asked in rules, I post like I shoot.
  13. Been a shooter in USPSA for 15 years, a CRO for the last 10 and have now been asked to be a Match Director. I should have paid more attention, but on a club level I've focused on simply running shooters. Read the rule book, beyond that, from those of you who hold/held this role what is important to focus in on? TIA
  14. I got DQ'd at the Florida State last year. I knew there would be a chrono and grip safety check at the match so I left my Single Stack gun home. Unloaded my carry 1911 and shot the match. We got to the chrono stage and the grip safety was not engaging. It was a five minute fix. I politely said thank you to the MD and left.
  15. Agree with you the guys from WAC are a pleasure and no one brought up a Classifier last year. Dan and I had a nice chat while he DQ'd me for not having a working grip safety on my Colt :-) Still just looking for a hard firm logic for requiring that we annually re-shoot (in my humble opinion) a long boring stage. TIA jon
  16. I was informed that in order to shoot the 2011 Florida State Match I have to have shot a classifier in the prior year. Supposedly this is a rule from AK HQ. The last time I shot classifiers were in ESP in 2002 and CDP in 2005 and there is no way in hell that I can speed up to Master from Expert. Can anyone, and I am not trashing IDPA, give me the logic for requiring an annual classifier. TIA jon
  17. I’m the OP. About 10 years back I spent a one on one day with Frank Garcia and he asked me in the afternoon if I was looking at the front sight or the target. I knew the right answer and said front sight. But, much later on I realized it was the target I was looking at. Yes, it works well depending on the distance. My issue is finding one way to shoot. I read the cross eye dominance posts on the net and most of the suggestions deal only with range time. Another trainer suggested wearing glasses that had an inner corner correction for distance. Wearing glasses all the time that I don’t need is not a reasonable option. If there were 3 choices: A. Deal with the problem and continue shooting right hand right eye focusing harder B. Try again to shoot with both eyes open which improves the sight picture slightly C. Use my left eye only and hold the gun with my body way out of a natural position How would anyone approach this? thx
  18. Steve: thx.. that is what I as looking for.
  19. It is difficult to ask a question and get helpful answers if I don’t know the correct terminology. I am right handed and shoot with my right eye only. Left eye closed. I cannot shoot with two eyes open as that creates a headache. 10 years post Lasik my right eye is for distance and left eye for near in. My vision is great for everyday use. But I cannot see a clear front sight with my right eye. I can with my left. If I try and shoot right handed using my left eye. What is the term for this? Has anyone tried reversing the eyes they use? Success, failure or general experiences would be appreciated. Thx jon
  20. The other night waiting for our squads turn on a stage I watched a shooter break the 180. Turned to the guys next to me and confirmed they also saw it. I am a long time CRO and the other two guys have been with USPSA for 10+ years so there was no mistake about it. It was a new or newish shooter but the RO who missed the call was a regular, a good guy and I consider him a friend. What should I have done at that point? What if any responsibility do I have to the shooter, the RO and the club since I was not the Match SO or Director? Clearly you can't have everyone watching a match interfering with every call. Yes, I did take some action but not sure I made the right decision.

    Inconsistency

I am a solid B shooter and have been so for a decade +. I am well trained, have attended many classes by name instructors and have solid technical skills. Yet, when I show up at an USPSA match I never know if the A or Hi B or low C/D shooter is going to show up. Of course it is mental, but I am getting tired of it. jon
  22. I've got an 870 with a short stock on it. At 12 3/4 it is still too long for my comfort. Does anyone know where I can find a fixed 12 inch stock? If not what are you thoughts on adjustable stocks? TIA jon
  23. Clyde: Yeah, I figured... I had a legal blade tech and lent it to Enigma from the Cult and can't find him to get it back I am considering trying comp-tac as I like their 1911 rigs. Which mag holders do you use? thx jon
  24. I believe this old Mad Dog holster it is cut too low to be legal now in USPSA Production. Would someone confirm that before I go out and spend money and test new holsters. thx jon
  25. Even worse is running shooters.....In IDPA when the shooter finishes a position I start running to the next spot....only to find I've left the shooter behind reloading.
