    dropping

Dropping Friend took a hard fall running a stage, he went down flat but with complete control of his pistol. He rested a moment then let the gun out of his hand to get up. Before I could stop him, he picked up the loaded gun. Was this a DQ when he released the gun to get up. Was it a DQ again when he picked it up instead of me, the RO on the stage. He had decided to stop on the stage. See definition of “dropped” and 10.5.14. I DQ’d him Was this the correct application of dropped?
  2. I run Glock 19s after a lot of different guns in 25 years. Don't tell any of the 17 and 34 fans, but, the bullets go where you point the gun. ?
  3. Could not figure a better place for this..call it a C. I’ve never paid much attention to Ltd Minor. I got back into USPSA when Production was announced and have shot either Production or SS since. Two weeks ago I shot a Monster Match with 55 round stages and a stage designer who was pure evil. He tossed in a lot of back to back to back 6 round views and running between. Some stages I went thru 9 mags. Looking at my Glock 19s I could just add some longer mags and see if I enjoy LM thinking and planning.. I can read the length in the rule book, my specific first question is: A is how many rounds does that translate into a Glock 17 mag total after adding an extension? B. Next is which brand extension is preferred and reliable out of the box? C. Last question is if I can could choose a pistol for LM, would it be the Shadow 2 or 2011 or is there another option? D. Is LM just a dumb idea? TIA jon
  4. I always enjoy checking to see if the Colt 2000 is still there ?
  5. Yes. Denial and a Glock 19. I also cut back to 5 mags. It is a big gain after a .45 with 6 or 7 mags. After a few stages in the Florida sun you can really appreciate the difference.
  6. Probably too late but...empty the refrigerator and freezer before you leave. Not Jack's, yours.

    Gritty take up

Went to a local gunshow this morning and the Glock table guy suggested a touch of oil on the connector. Worked perfectly. thank you.

    Gritty take up

3 years ago I went from 1911s to Glocks. One part I’ve really enjoyed is tinkering with gun rather than begging and waiting on good smiths. I have a few 19s Gen 4. The issue I am running into is a very mild but gritty take up before the break on two of them. Two are perfect, two gritty. Breaks are great, reset is fine. All else is good. Have been thru a bunch of different springs. Been thru switching parts back and forth between guns. So the question is what am I not understanding? On the take up what part would cause the gritty take up. TIA jon
  9. Have you got a link to explain those drills?
  10. Brian: This was a great suggestion. The follow up question is: if I am shooting paper, I lose the crisp front sight I see on the first shot, and the sight becomes fuzzy and slow to recover for a 2nd shot. How do I approach getting the focus back faster? TIA jon
  11. I came up the 5 step Gunsite method. 1. Strong hand to grip, off hand to center of chest. 2. Lift the pistol to retention, (level), and swipe safety off. You are ready to fire at that point. 3 4 and 5 follow. I think of the USPSA method as 3 steps with the safety coming off on the 2nd step which is lifting the gun and having both hands meet in the center of the chest but not yet extended.
  12. I work out 5-6 days a week. I look gorgeous. The gun is STILL heavy. Wow. This is a tough crowd.?
  13. As this topic started 6 weeks ago the OP has probably found his bag. About 5 years ago I went minimal. I use a 511 messenger bag and only carry what I need around a match. The Messenger Bag holds a few light tools, full medical kit, gun, 500 rounds, mag holders and mags. No problem. Plus two water bottles on the side. Lots of small pockets for pens, flashlights and lens cleaners etc. I like all the small pockets and after all these years know exactly where everything is. All other parts stay in the Jeep. I've got a ton of parts that stay in the Jeep and if I really have to work on a 1911 or Glock it's no problem walking back to the car. I also keep a backup gun in the Jeep for matches. The bag is great, not a backpack but carries comfortably on the shoulder or with the handle. I never understood all the stuff shooters had to have with them for the entire match.
  14. Yes, and I've blocked you on PMs ?
  15. Losing weight. I’ve got a stock colt 9mm AR. Brainfarted and thought I was buying a ltwt which I used to own. The weight is the same as a Colt 16 inch. It just feels heavy. Furniture is light Magpul. Mini Trijicon on top. Anything else I can do to lighten the rifle? I can buy a SBR upper or cut the barrel, but that is a year’s wait. Any other options. TIA jon
  16. Gun Range Drills Lost my magnetic card to the private indoor range I belong too. Going to a public range limits the drills I can do. At the public range I’ve got a fixed lane and fixed direction. What can I work on ? First thing I do is work on accuracy. 2nd is switch hands. After that I could use suggestions. Thx jon
  17. Rolling 1911s into Production. I know this sounds Un-American. The country needs a Special Council to even bring this up. But. I travel to different clubs and mostly Level 1 matches. No one is shooting 1911s. It is gone. Out of 80 shooters maybe 1 or 2 will shoot 1911s. It is dead in the 200 miles North and South from my home in S. Florida. I like shooting Single Stacks. Sadly, there is no competition and we are competitors. With 9mm SS, it is easy with 10 rounds, with 45s, it is 8 and major. All the original ideas of opening a box and shooting Production as a starter division is long gone. So why not wrap 1911s into Production and this way we can shoot our classic pistols and still be scored with a larger group. Yes I can continue with my Glock 19s and there really is no substantial difference between the results. My glock 19s probably have almost invested in triggers as the 1911s. Let’s move the 1911s, make it provisional and see if we can bring back the SS world into 2018. DVC jon
  18. I've got about 20 of Virgil's mags. Some for my EDC Colt CCO 45s. And a dozen for my 9mm Steel guns. Very few issues and when i do, I've called Virgil who fixed the issues immediately. It is really nice to be able to reach out to the man whose name is on his product.
  19. After “Make Ready” .. how long? Finished running the last 4 shooters from my squad and was 2nd person up on the next stage. If I was first I would generally hand off the clock and grab an early look. But 2nd, no problemo. Walked the stage with everyone else, just did not get it. I knew I was missing it. Could not visualize, was not comfortable. Named called, MR given and I was still looking around absolutely lost. It was plus 100 degrees and Florida humid. I knew the squad…so the heckling and abuse started. Finally figured, ah, I must have it. Nope, FTE’d 2 targets which blew the stage and day’s score. So, how long do you have from “MR” to “AYR” ?

    Glock 43 upgrades

HDs, Vickers extended slide stop....but, what made it work great is the Raven Concealment holster. Gun disappears under the lightest shirt and still safely covers the trigger which others do not. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078XPT4Y9/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  21. I bought a PCC when I injured my shoulder ....I cannot begin to share the wonderment of NO RELOADS. Each stage is this incredible sense of freedom ? But, soon back to SS and Prod.
  22. Another older fart, 69 next week and CRO for almost 20 years. I still like to work on stage designs and don't really see a problem working PCC into a match. It still is the shooter "solving the problem" .
  23. A few years ago I went totally minimal for going to a match. I have enough parts in the car to repair a Glock or 1911 but almost nothing in the messenger bag that I carry around at a Match. Now I occasionally shoot PCC and really need a cart. Ideally, stand up, holds rifle bag, small cooler on bottom (might as well, Florida summer is coming) and I can attach my messenger bag to the top. Could use some specific suggestions. TIA jon
  24. I was downsizing 5 years ago, walked into a house in Boca Raton by the beach, in great shape, perfect location at the right price. Other buyers were in the house so didn't really look around too hard. Made a cash offer and accepted. Went to move in. And guess what--- the guy was a cabinet maker and a shooter. Built in carpentry for safe, loading, shelves for 50 cal ammo can storage...sometimes you get lucky :-)
  25. I don't know for sure if it matters but I purchased a Wolff spring from TF with the Colt extension. Attached to a Brownell's magazine I've gotten 40-41 rounds working without any issues. I have not compared the standard length with the Wolff and don't have any way to compare spring pressure. Just an FYI.
