  1. Tarheel 3 Gun runs over a 100 shooters monthly in their matches. Multiple stages with many moving parts. Somehow we usually finish by 1-2 pm and tablet scores are posted before I leave the range.....local uspsa club runs only 80-90 shooters and it's usually an all day affair to shoot 100-120 rounds. Why so slow? Scores are done on a tablet too...just post later....there is more money in 3 gun...on the table and in your gear. A very affordable rig and some simple shooting fundamentals have netted mesome large payouts and top finishes. People want to take all their toys out for test runs and 3 gun allows just about anything. One gun can become stagnant.....3 guns will usually leave your brain steaming. Every club has issues with setup and tear down. Some shooters will never help. The thought is why would I pay a match fee at a club that I pay more fees to, just to shoot money downrange and then work to clean up at the end. Makes some sense to me. I do work quite a few matches but consider my self a lazy crew member. Some clubs have now added benefits to a setup/tear down crew. IE free match, gear, and others. Some clubs just pay a crew to do it. Where does your money go in uspsa? Does my match fee go anywhere. I understand maintenance and targets. I run the Usmc team. I know money goes for our classifiers. Where does the rest go? Not to the prize table. Take a look at Rocky mtn 3 gun. I'm pretty sure Denise and Jj would sell their house to put more stuff on the table....300k on a prize table between 300 shooters.... and only a 250-300 match fee. Yeah....3 gun is the new x games. Boxing is great for the Olympics, but when I want to drink a beer and enjoy myself, I'll watch dudes beat each other in MMA.
  2. High team, high ladies juniors, seniors, LE. .....I don't seem to see a category for high one legged guy named Gill. I'm starting a push to have it at every match. The trophy should be a box of nuggets.... or bacon. Or a bottle of Captain Morgan.
  3. Yes there are already several designs currently used.....i was asking about any issues with them....the Corps will not go the way of the Saiga, but the Mk1919 is being looked at closely. I am looking at modifications to a standard tube fed shotgun that can allow for magazines as well. I am mainly concerned with issues on the operating system. IE...the Corps is currently fielding Benellis M4 or the M1014 which runs on a gas piston....this has several problems and can be rough on even the saltiest of shooters....
  4. I have been tasked with some new projects for the Marine Corps and I am asking for some of your experiences. I am currently working on on designs for an magazine fed shotgun....I know...re-inventing the wheel, but I do as Im told.....and I am looking at modifying an AR platform to improve sight over bore to minimize changes in point of aim and point of impact. I know some of you out there are magical with guns, and I ask that you not be afraid to share your past discoveries so that I dont burn your tax dollars covering old ground. Thank you so much.
  5. Im trying to find out which matches allow trooper class and what the rules are exactly for gun setups and gear. If anyone has the low down please let me know. I am putting my dreams of being competitive on hold so that I can do some shooting in the name of research.
  6. Im sure there is some issues with competitors names. I competed at Superstition and TX multigun and should be listed somewhere in semi pro...Maybe I just need to place higher and then people will pay attention to who I am. On another note, I thought about changing divisions myself.....I shoot Tac optics right now because that is where the Marine Corps gear puts me....I will never be a top shooter in any class due to some physical and financial issues. But, I use 3 gun as a venue of research and development for the USMC marksmanship program. I would like to switch over to Heavy scope division and shoot in my plate carrier with all the bells and whistles. I will never win a match this way, but I can train others based off of my experiences. Plus I think shooting this Heman-Trooper hybrid class would look awesome......and if im correct, this sport is more so about looking good and having awesome gear....
  7. m&p pro 9mm 43000 rds....just recently added apex trigger group....I have had only one failure to extract...no other issues or breaks. I have had some buddies shoot the gun with a handful of failure to feeds...I blame it on their weak wrists.
  8. Hello Shooters, I am looking out for any active duty or reserve Marines that shoot 3 Gun. I have heard there are several shooters spread throughout the US and I need to get in contact with them. If you know of any please have them contact me. The USMC Combat Shooting Team would like to screen for new membership and needs to link up and share knowledge. Please spread the word and get back to me......Sgt James Gill USMC Combat Shooting Team. 210-279-2018
  9. Im in....well signed up at least...now lets see how well I can keep up.
  10. ELS is the adapter system for the Safari Land Belts and attachments. It is an awesome design......I put the ELS attachments on the back of Mark Ottos shell caddies. at anytime I can add or remove attachments on my belt without removing. Marks caddies are the most reliable I have seen. They are super affordable and definatley worth every penny. Plus Mark is an outstanding guy, he makes sure his product is a quality one.......THanks again Mark.
  11. Weve got a match down in Lejuene, then we kick of our practice for this match.....Im looking for a stronger finish this year....as long as the leg runs I should be alright. ..... Mike are you shooting early...ROing? I think you should try to jump in with us if possible....It will be our own "super" squad.
  12. Hello, Sgt Gill here,....im working on our budget and match schedule for this upcoming year as required by the Corps. We need quite a large advance on the schedule, or else we can not get authorized orders for travel. If there is anyone that has info on any upcoming matches....PLEASE LET ME KNOW! Call me direct-210-412-6636 or message me. Thank you all.
  13. Hello all, Some of you may know me, if not, let me introduce myself. I am SGT James Gill. I am currently stationed at MCB Quantico as a member of the Combat Shooting Team. This is the Marine Corps newly formed 3 gun Team. We shoot just about every match and discipline we can. IE 3gun, USPSA, Steel Challenge. Everything but cowboy action. Sorry. Our Team was established to improve every Marines marksmanship in realistic applications. Every member of our team is a Combat Veteran. We currently are developing a new Marksmanship program. To help with this process we attend outside training and competitions. We also host 3 gun matches on our range and are setting up Division matches. All of this is a very demanding task, and in order to be successful with the program as well as our match finishes, each of our 7 members is tasked with multiple chores. I am posting here to ask for help. If there is anyone that can provide information on several items, PLEASE help. Match Logistics. Match schedules and priority. Training packages. Gear set up. Ammo loads. And anything else you think may be helpful. I do thank you for any help you may be able to provide. Also As soon as we firm our schedule we will post our match announcements. Free matches, with use of guns, gear and ammo on our ranges. And our match training as well. If you are interested in tracking our progress, follow us on Facebook, or my personal pages on FB and youtube. Thanks again.
  14. All prepped and ready to go.......our team has put in some serious range time and pt for this match.....now we just have to shoot it....Im not gonna lie...im a little bit nervous....my rifle seems to have a little gas leak....boo....and my leg doesnt seem to fit right anymore, and since it has fallen off at several matches before, I may be hopping through the forest. Oh yeah, we also lost out on commercial flights and will be making the trip on a C-130...thanks.
  15. I have no idea how this match was scored........plus a few stages were strange......I know I cleared the steel portions on a stage and we were still penalized for 8 ftn on 1 portion......how this was decided...i dont know..............i enjoyed the match.....weather doesnt bother me nearly as bad as it does others. Also I feel pretty good about our performance considering i was the only memnber of my team who had the proper gear.....better luck next year.....................also look for a showing from the USMC CMT. Maybe....
  16. yes the Marine Corps has started the Combat Marksmanship Team......I should be headed up that way to join the Team as soon as my Medical status clears.........The team is looking to a good one......Youll be seeing more from us soon.
  17. The loss of vision will slow you down as much as you let it. You need to ask first what your resources will allow. Can you afford the pen set up. Then exactly how you like to shoot. Maybe you would prefer to shoot production if you shoot for carry practice. I just like to shoot so iron or optic works the same for me. I get more practice with iron through the classes I teach. Also an optic gives new or learning shooters a very high confidence. You will see that your vision on the gun matters less then your overall understanding of the gun and the sport. Its hard to explain all through text so if you or anyone else needs a better understanding feel free to call me at anytime. 2104126636. Plus I have a lot of time on my hands and I get bored easily. Hope I helped. James gill Usmc a61694 rudy project shooting team. Guntrainingsanantonio.com
