  1. Quite a few years ago I came across a 1918 mfg 1911 that was kinda hacked up. Misfitted beavertail, slide cut for a Novak front wrecked finish you get the picture. So I snatched it up for a song. I fixed the beavertail best I could, refinished the gun, new pins and ignition parts. Even though is was wrecked when I got it and I have messed with it, do you guys think I should tuck it away as is or work on it some more to shoot SS with? I feel bad for the gun, but the damage is done and how cool would it be to shoot SS with an original?
  2. I forgot all about this thread, guess its time for an update. I did take the plunge. I sold a enough old stuff to get into a Glock 34, some mags, Comptac kydex and CR speed belt. Did a "New Shooters" clinic hosted by the great folks of Green Mountain Practical Shooters back in April and shot a special classifier match in Production the next day. To date I have shot 4 matches with GMPS placing(in order) 8th, 7th, 4th, and 2nd. There are on average 18-20 shooters in Production including shooters from U to M. I have moved from D to C with two my last two classifiers a B. I'm hooked! I also got my younger cousin into it, he has shot the 3 of the 4 matches with me with a Glock 19 he purchased for carry and comp. Next step is to sell some more stuff/save up for a Dillon 550 as the amount of 9mm we go though is not always in stock locally. I must give a big thank you to the people on this board, with out you guys I would not have got into this great sport or learned(still learning) as much as I have. Thank you everyone!
  3. YMMV but the Aimpoint on my AR15 went a long way to helping me shoot with both eyes open, now it just happens. The best way I can describe it is that my brain has learned to ignore about the "other" picture. My cousin that I seduced into shooting USPSA is always asking me what I see with both eyes open. I tell him I see everything, but my brain only uses what is needed.
  4. Oh, I wasn't thinking about changing them now. I was just wondering if it would be worth a shot come replacement time. Thanks for the replies.
  5. Well, our noob thinking was that it would get the round in place for the slide quicker and more positive engagement of the slide release. I not am having problems with stock springs, but just a "value added" thing. Thanks for the replies.
  6. A co-worker and I were talking about springs today. We were thinking that running extra power mag springs in a downloaded production gun might be a good thing. What says the rest of you? I'm not gonna run out and replace all my working mag springs, but it is something to think about when the time comes. FYI, I am running a Wolff 14# recoil spring if it matters at all.
  7. I shot my first one last month. Feels good, don't it.
  8. Thanks for the pic, looks good. I recently re-decked my boat, the old decking was not in as bad shape as I thought so pretty much my marine grade stuff was free. I hate being a pack rat, but sometimes it comes in handy.
  9. I see where you are comming from, but I have space to set up a range that will alow me to just walk outside and get right into practice. I wont have to use any time for setting up, and with kids my practice time is limited. The wood(marine plywood) should last very well outside.
  10. Hello, Since I got Anderson's book on dry-fire I have been working on an outdoor range with full size wooden targets. I am looking for suggestions on how well I should define the scoring zones. FYI, I am just a beginner. Thank You Patrick Scott
  11. This past Sunday before leaving the range I loaded up one of my G34 mags, stuffed it into my daily carry G19 and engaged a 18"X18" steel plate at 200 yards. Fifth round connected with a few more after that. Shots were done sitting at the bench with elbows supported, had a witness too! Takes a while for the rounds to get out there
  12. Did you watch my gun at all last weekend? My 34 is running a 14# spring and steel rod because I like the way it feels. I can't tell you if it makes me or the gun any "better" I just like it. As Pro-Pain talked about I had to drop my striker spring down to a 4# to make the gun go into battery like it should. Other than those parts my 34 is not that different than your 17. The 34s do come with the Glock "-" connector which does reduce the trigger pull weight by about a pound compared to your 17(my reduced striker spring drops it a little more). Before you put money into your 17 buying a bunch of after-market parts you should shoot my 34. For about $50.00 you could slick your 17 to equal my 34. As far a barrels go, I wouldnt bother unless you want to shoot lead. For this game, and Production it doesnt make a lot of sense to toss a perfectly good Glock barrel. I know that the Glock barrel shoots better than I, so I spend my money on ammo. I didnt notice what sights you are running, but if they are stock I would ditch those before anything else. Stock Glock sights suck! I like the all black Warren Sevigny Comp sights.
  13. I am pleased to say that in my first USPSA match on Sunday I had no "left" issues. Thanks again everyone. When I stepped up to Pucker Factor(CM 09-04), T1 was a little nerve racking, but it went great. glock22.scout- It would be great to get together, good shooting with you as well.
  14. Nice choice. I'm just a new guy myself, but I think I would have went the same way. Was it cold enough for you today? I was freezing out there. See you tomorrow!
  15. G-ManBart, it worked. Fridays practice went really good with that nugget of info you gave me. I was even getting decent hits on a 9" plate at 50yds. Those hits pretty much proved it for me. I attended a "New Shooter Clinic" today hosted by GMPS and again slow shots were much improved. Thanks again Patrick Scott
  16. LOL, I guess, since the point is to shoot "A"s as fast as possible. I'm pretty sure Fridays live fire practice will be centered around making the tight shots.
  17. I think you may have hit the nail with that. When I read it I'm pretty sure a light-bulb went off in my head. I'm going to experiment with my trigger pull Friday. Mucho Thanks Patrick Scott
  18. I dryfire every night, the sights don't move anymore. I am really starting to thing this is a mental thing. I'm just wondering what is so different when I am "at speed" vs. slowfire. Thank You Patrick Scott
  19. New shooter here, really new to the game(first match is this weekend). I have noticed something with both my Glock 19 carry gun and my 34 match gun. When going full tilt my hits are center and where I want them, going slow they go left. There are enough left that at 10yds and out the head A box makes me nervous. I think I am trying to hard, you guys seen anything like this? Thank You Patrick Scott
  20. Hello, I ordered a Wolff "Recoil Guide Rod & Spring Combination" and a Wolff 4lb Striker spring for my G34. Got the package today and there was an extra(?) spring in the combo package bag. It is shorter than Wolff and Glock striker spring, same diameter, and feels as stiff as the Glock striker spring. Any ideas? The description on the gunsprings web site does not mention this spring. One other question I have, is there any reason to place the recoil spring outboard end(where its cut off) in any particular location? Thank You Patrick Scott ETA: I figured out the my first question. I never read the description of the recoil spring alone.
  21. I picked up my third Glock(34) this weekend. My other two(19, 26) both have the sight drifted a touch right and hit well for me. The 34 came out of the box with the sight drifted left and I thought "Wow, Ill never hit anything like this", but it hits fine. Now I worried I may have got a bad Glock because the sight is drifted wrong
