  1. The only problem I had with my SX2 was with shells that had been reloaded too many times or with practice shells I was using too many times for speed reloading. They get indented on the bottom and get hung up on the shell stop. Solution: for anything other than practice, use new shells or once reloads. SX2 is a great value.
  2. This is silly ok, and not what you were looking for, but I think the 3.8 XDm is a heck of a gun. Fix the trigger and reset and you have a real winner. Sure, everybody plays with the long slide, but the 3.8 draws as fast as any gun out there...
  3. I probably mucked mine up too good trying to pound it out before reading this thread. I couldn't find any schematic that shows what hair pin you guys are talking about... Any pics???
  4. What are your steel plate minor loads? I'm thinking they may be a tad light. You are still shooting 180s right? Read this article and check out some of these loadings and see if it won't make the difference....They work just fine in my M&P and I load lighter than that. http://www.handgunsmag.com/ammunition/40lite_091806/
  5. Looks like you polished that smooth as glass!
  6. Are you sure you needed to do that? Maybe your trigger assembly wasn't seated correctly? I was once having a devil of a time getting my pins back in and I noticed that my loading gate was off to the side like yourse and so I was then able to straighten out the assembly and seat it correctly. Pins popped right in and gate was correctly centered. I'm thinking the Mesa Tactical pins might not force you to have it in PERFECT.
  7. I'm reloading mostly Win AAs. I've been lucky and haven't had any problem with the Universals, both new and reloads. I've made up some practice rounds with the Universals and they don't hang up yet either. So far, it's just the soft brass Win AAs that do this. I guess it's just the nature of the beast? I tried driving out the pin and I got a bit nervous about that so I just used some emery taped to the bottom of a hull, and worked the shell stop back and forth on that for a little bit. I thought it made a difference at first, but then it started hanging up on the more worn Win AAs again. It's a bit discouraging because I tried the ones that hang up in every other shotgun I have and they are just fine. I was sure hoping someone had a fix:( I have a nordic tube but kept the factory follower. It happens with that or with stock spring and tube.
  8. I saw Scheel's has those but with an 18 inch smooth bore with rifle sights. Are you sure it's a rifled barrel? Their price was about $650 if I remember right.
  9. Thanks guys for replying. You both nailed the problem. I hope shooting new isn't the only solution though. I just forked out a nice new gun's worht of dough getting into shotgun reloading. I'm going to drive out that pin tonight and polish the shell stop. Hope I don't open up a can of problems...
  10. I like them both EQUALLY. I've tried to decide on one so I could just stick with one, but I couldn't.
  11. So far it seems to be only from some of my well-used reloads. The base of the shell is worn enought that it keeps the shell stop?? from moving out of the way to release a new shell onto the carrier. It doesn't seem to do this with new shells, just reloaded ones with soft brass. The same part on my Mossberg works no problem. Seems to be a big design flaw. I'm thinking I may have to punch out the pin and remove the part and polish the end there, but I'm thinking it's probably smooth already. Has anyone else noticed this with Win SuperXs or FN SLPs??? What is the fix???
  12. I had a thought today on the loading port when my finger finally got pinched. I've seen how a few have modified the loading lever by filling it in with metal to keep that "pinch" or finger stick from happening. But the fork is actually used to guide the shell into the chamber, so filling it in might actually be detrimental to dependablitiy. But what about cutting the fork LONGER? so that a finger or skinny thumb won't get trapped? That last picture up there shows where a grinding wheel could just easily lengthen the fork.
  13. Scheel's has the m1 for +-$650! Nothing fancy, 18 inch barrel with rifle sights. I was settled on the Win SX2 for about the same price and wanted something I could hunt with as well so I didn't go the Benelli route but they had two in stock and I told all my friends cause it seems like a great deal.
  14. My new Winchester SX2 3", thanks forum!, just eat up my powderpuff 7/8 ounce reloads. Wallyworld Winchester Universal packs are like mother's milk.
  15. Anyone have a pic of the spot to smooth out? I haven't had this problem yet, but...
  16. I like my supernova tactical alot. It's a beast.
  17. I've been lurking the last few days in search of a decent semi-auto shotgun that won't break the bank. Thanks guys for pointing me in the right direction. I got one of them today. I could have gotten a more expensive and shiny shotgun, but something tells me this will work almost as well. Range report: One pack of wallyworld Universal Winchester value pack #8 shot, two more boxes of 7 shot, 120 Lee slugs, 60 .690 round ball loads, and an assortment of buckshot rounds. I shot nearly everything I had, and have no left - 0 malfunctions. Cleanup was a breeze. I am very pleased indeed!
  18. I like my .40C. I had an old striker and it did break while dry firing. S&W sent me a new replacement striker just on my word. It's held up for several thousand rounds and probably as many dry fires since. The chamber fully supports the round. I have had NO MALFUNCTIONS of any mechanical kind while shooting. I trust it.
  19. I bought 500 because that was all the bulk bullets available at the time, and like you, I couldn't get them to shoot for sh*t. Often I thought they were going out sideways out of my M&P .40. BUT Today I tried 150 of a light load - 3.8 of W231 with the 180 Xtremes, and used a Lee FCD and put a fairly decent crimp on the things, because the instructions for the die says to for light loads. Suprise suprise, shot slicker than snot. Brass dropped at my feet and sung "pick me up". What a pleasant and accurate load to shoot! I'm going to load up the rest of them and have a real good time! Try it out for those bech weights you got. You might be suprised as well.
  20. Most of the time I prime my cases by hand as the second to last part of brass prep unless I'm certain all the brass is mine and already had all crimped primer pockets swaged. The ones I do by hand I retumble after they are primed so I don't get bits stuck in an empty primer pocket. It's not bad as I watch tv while priming with an RCBS hand primer. I haven't had one go off in my 550b or my hand primer yet, but if one does, I hope it's in the hand primer. I've had more wrong seatings in the hand primer than the 550b. Especially when loading small rifle or pistol primers. They overturn a lot easier.
