  1. Either 16 or 18" mid length, non-adjustable gas block, jp low mass (steel) bolt carrier, and enedine (sp?) buffer.

I have had adjustable gas blocks on my guns and as long as I set them the way jp recomended and didn't mess with them or change my loads I was ok.

I always slighty over gassed them so the gun would run dirty.

In the last year I took them off my 2 primary race uppers after I installed the enedine buffers in the lower. I played with the gas settings after the addition of the enedine. It didn't seem like I had to dial the gas down so low to flatten the gun out so I just took the adjustable gas blocks off.

  2. Another vote for jims mags. I got one from him a while back. It exactly fits the mag guage, runs flawlessly and holds 29 rounds of 9mm with some room(brass case-pro'd)or 30 rounds of super comp.

For what he does to the mag he is extremely reasonable. As for the short mags as long as the dimensions on the feed lips are right they just work.

The only thing to watch out for might be if there are still any first gen frames out there. They had a tendency to crack across the trigger tunnel. Other than that shoot and enjoy.

  3. My $.02...

Get the 9mm from a smith who is comfortable building them and you won't have a problem.

I got tired of having to bend down to pick up dimes after I was done shooting. So, I had Joey Hardy (Hardy Custom) re-barrel one of my supers a couple of years ago when the barrel was finally shot out. I haven't looked back since.

  4. I enjoyed this movie, however, this was a bit of a disappointment after Casino Royale, which ranks right up there as one of the best Bond movies of all time.

The plot was a bit disjointed as if they had several ideas for what should happen but they didn't quite get glued together. Or maybe they had 5 different writers do different sections of the film. And will somebody stop these stupid disjoint rapid multi-cut scenes. I just about got motion sick watching the car chase action scene in the beginning of the movie. Someone has obviously mistaken shoddy craftsmanship for modern editing technique.

All that aside I did enjoy the movie and the current direction they are taking the series. I like the return to the basic portrayal of James Bond as a hard drinking steely eyed killer. Which is what Ian Flemming intended.

  5. Some of that may depend on what kind of barrel you have in your gun.

One of my guns has a clark 38 super barrel in it. My gunsmith told me I ought to use .356 bullets in it. So I follow his advice.

The other had a schuemann (sp?) barrel in it. He said .355 for it since it was actualy a 9mm barrel.

The bullets in question were the montana gold 125 .356 fmj bullet and the montana gold 124 gr fmj .355 bullet.

I haven't slugged either of them to check, but I do know the following for the same load substituting one bullet for the other yields the following results :

In the clark the .355 bullets give lower velocity than the .356 do.

The .356s gave higher pressure signs in the schuemann (primers start to show crater where they didn't before).

What works better may depend on brand specs, and or which end of the tolerance the barrel you actually got is.

  6. I assume you are talking about the springfield that uses the para/enterprise compatible steel frame?

If so and you like the way the para/enterprise frame feels in your hand. There is no reason I can think of not to use one.

  7. I suppose one answer would be that you had an eotech installed on the flat top and a rear sight behind it. This would allow you to co-witness the the optic and the sights. I never liked it that way myself, but some do. I usually just swap it for one without the sight or for one with a pic rail so I can re-install irons if I just have to.

  8. Having gotten one of these, let me suggest that you invest in a " trigger tamer" for it. It is a replacement trigger part that basically reduces the tension on the spring that supplies trigger return force. It reduced the pull weight in mine to a much more manageable level. It also comes with a nice set on instructions on how to slick the trigger up some.

  9. First what I hate.....

While waiting to shoot I look down at my open gun and notice that the 2 halves of my ambi safeties are pointed in opposite directions... :surprise:

Ok, no big deal... We'll just go over to the safe area ( probably just the weak side popped out far enough to rotate freely)... We'll just smack that back in and be back in business.

Oops.. That doesn't look right... Hey! Since when is my strong side safety supposed to come apart in 2 pieces...

    Now what I like...

Fortunately someone else on my squad was willing to share guns so I could finish the match... (Thanks Justin).

    More what I hate...

I get home, I figure I may as well go ahead and fit a new set, so I rummage around in the big box 'o spare parts. I must have an extra set around here someplace... I find a nice set of Ed Brown wide safeties ... Then I start looking and measuring and comparing the new one to the old one... Hey... that doesn't look right. Then it hits me Caspian frames don't use standard safeties... (no knock intended against Caspian they are what I prefer).

    Back to what I like...

Fortunately Brownells had them in stock. Having learned my lesson I have ordered 2 sets and will fit them both and cary the spare set in my bag. This isn't going to happen to me again.

  10. I enjoyed this match greatly. The stages were very well designed and executed. The facility was great. The Ga section staff did their usual great job. In short it was exactly what I have always come to expect from the Ga section match.

    Good job guys.

As to the time of the year...

I'll echo what Robert said above. The cooler weather was always one of the things that pulled me torward this match in the past. It was one of the reasons I signed up this year.

On the other hand, stable weather is always a plus (having shot and ro'd more matches in the rain, cold, and even snow than I'd care to remember).

Having said all that, I am not a Ga section resident, this is the Ga section championship match. So whatever works best for the Ga section is the way to go :-)

  11. My past experience also leads me to believe that Chris Patty can always lead you to a good place to eat.

A good place to eat.....very likely. A good place to stay.....not so much. <_<

    Chris,

Since you mentioned it, you aren't staying at the match hotel are you? :surprise::unsure::surprise:

Do I need to bring a long gun????

    Thats funny right there. :roflol:

A group of us needs to get together and pop a few caps in Chris' front yard about 3 am. Otherwise he might not feel like this is a real match.

Not me... I've seen chris shoot that could be bad for my health :-)

  12. I have the same experience as HI5-0 the 9x25 open gun I used to shoot would do that... I always put that down to the massive quantity of slow burning powder it used (I think like 15 grains of n110). With the right springs we were able to get the dot not to essentialy not move (just vibrate a little). However I have found that for me I need the dot to rise just a bit for me to be able to call my shots.

In a super you might get that effect with a heavy charge of n105 and 115s.
