  1. Hmm... I must have gotten lucky. I have 2 caspians that run and run and run. Had them both rebareled from 38sc to 9mm major. Never had to touch the mags... I agree though they aren't pretty. I keep hoping they do for the 9/38 super mags what they have done for the 40 mags (which are very nice).

  2. For sure there are many scopes that can handle the .50

The reason I recomended the NF is that I know from personal experience that it will stand up to the punishment of shooting the 50. The one on my Styer HS 50 has worked quite well so far.

The Super Sniper will likely work for you. The only issue I have with them is that the glass just isn't even close to the NF (of course the cost isn't either...so there is something to be said for that :) )

Just glad to see more .50 owners...

  3. Wait till you pull the trigger. It will put an ear to ear smile on your face that will take an hour to wear off.

Join the Fifty Caliber Shooters Association. Their forum (members only) is THE source of knowledge for things 50BMG.(Plus you get a neat magazine four times a year).

Next buy a NightForce scope to put on it. It is one of the few scopes that doesn't cost a fortune that will stand up to hard use.

  4. I agree with the article. I'm a 20 year old college student and I can afford an AR and ammo but not $1,000 to dump on glass when it could go into ammo or even another rifle. (or books :roflol:)

I'm going to a three gun match soon and I chose to remove my EOTech because I'd be getting slammed by people with long range variable optics when it comes time for shots hundreds of yards away.

It's pointless to shoot an Aimpoint or EOtech against someone with a variable power scope when my dot fully obscures a plate at 100 yards :roflol:.

My cheap EOTech will continue to come off for matches unless we see a new division or aggregate...

By the way usable variables need not be expensive. I used a weaver 1-3 for a couple of years and it worked pretty well for me. (I bought it used... I doubt I paid more than $100 for it.)

  5. Ok I have read this thread and the letter in Frontsight, I don't understand what the problem that is trying to be addressed is.

Is the concern that tactical aggregate has become too popular and has reduced the participation in limited or the participation in open?

It seems to me that people who want to shoot open will do so because they like the full open experience (box mag shotguns, open pistols)... leave them out of this discussion.

If the concern is that limited is dying ( or we need to give the 1x red dot guys a home) then let's make a positive change to limited and allow 1x un-magnified optics.

Or if more seperation is required between limited and tactical, make the limited guys take their comps off (when I started shooting USPSA 3-gun I don't think comps were allowed in limited) and run max 30 round mags...

Is the argument that true 1x variables costs too much money? I don't accept that argument since there are several true 1x that cost less than an Eotech and with some careful shopping I didn't pay much more for a KDot than I would have for an new Eotech.

Is the argumet that variables aren't tactical?

That's wrong for sure. Didn't the military just start handing out Elcan Specter DR scopes to the Special Ops guys? (At least one guy I shoot matches with regularly just got his).

So why would I mess with the most popular division in USPSA 3-gun?

  6. Here you go again talking about unicorns again.

True enough. Funny part is that the one I have is the second one I've had. Sold the other one to a friend. :D

    Rich

You mean everyone doesn't have 2 Casepros with full sets of plates? B)

It doesn't go in the pistola if it hasn't gone through the Casepro first...

  7. For my money if you want you digital images to look like photographs when printed find someone who uses a light jet printer.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LightJet

This basicaly uses what amounts to a laser printer to expose traditional photo paper which is then processed like a normal photo.

The Noritsu and Lightjet printers (well, except a certain line of Noritsus) do the exact same thing...

(I used to use a service called mpix.com which produces excelent products.)

They do a decent job - but like I said above, it depends highly upon the processes and folks running the process and machines. Mpix is a division of Millers - different level of service (Mpix is volume, open to the masses) - so they don't quite follow the same level of process as you might get from the Millers side of the house, or from another quality pro house (I've used Calypso and West Coast Imaging).

I bow to your far superior knowledge :)

Oh and a +1 to xre's comment about having you monitor calibrated. Without doing that no telling what you'll get.

I have a cheap device spyder 2 I think ( I think it was $80) that hangs over the monitor and then runs through a process to produce a profile.

  9. Trapr, call Jim Lambert. I believe he still has one or two of the really nice Grendel barrels left and you know you cant do business with a nicer/better person.

Did jim ever ship those barrels? I thought he was still waiting on bolts?

(I had one ordered so if he has shipped some I probably ought to call him and check in...)

  10. My preference is for either:

    Larue SPR-E

    Jp

Both of these companies make an excelent product and both of them support the sport...

    As an aside:

Not sure I understand the concern about having your scope stolen off your rifle?

I doubt I'd shoot somewhere that gave me cause to believe that was a reasonable possibility. (And if losing the scope is a concern how about losing the rifle?)

Not trying to be argumentative just trying to understand your concern.
