  1. Does anyone know what the outside diameter of the barrel extension and the inside diameter of the upper should measure (and their tolerances)?

I am in the process of building another AR-15 upper. When I test fit the barrel to the upper there was more slop than I was used to. I measured the OD of the barrel extension at .998". I then measured the ID of the upper to be 1.002". So there appears to be about .004" of slop between them. I know that doesn't sound like much but it lets the barrel wiggle more than I am used to.

My normal fix for this would be to coat the outside of the barrel extension with blue loctite and assemble (making sure to wipe any extra loctite off so I can get it apart again if I have to). The idea being that when the loctite cures it will take up some of the slack so that the zero doesn't wander when it heats up.

Thoughts as to which part is off or is this just a case of tolerance stacking? Will the loctite bridge that much of a gap or will it wander on me as it heats?

  2. The reason I said low power factor is that since you only have to make 160 in IPSC for major you'll probably be running the gun close to 165 pf. In the US we have to make 165pf so most of us are probably running more like 170ish (I usually load closer to 174 to get the gun to track the way I want it to) to be safe. With my guns different powders seem to require loading to different power factors to get the dot to track well. That seems to mostly relate to the burn rates of the powders and how much gas they produce.

SP2 is probably the slowest powder that I have found that will make make major in a 9x19 loaded to major so I would expect it to work the comp a bit better at a lower pf...

Having said that all guns are a law unto themselves, and there are other factors like spring rates, shape of the pin stop that impact the way the gun cycles. Coco is right try several things till you find what works for you.

  3. Presuming it isn't worn out (ie it will still make major, no cracks, doesn't rattle too badly) and was built by a reasonable smith that is a pretty good deal. For mag holders I use the same cr speed pouches that I use for sti mags as well. Try it out and see how it fits your hand, for me it fits better than an sti/sv but that isn't universal. Mine have served me well for years. If you shoot it for a while and don't like it I doubt you'd have any trouble selling it for what you paid for it.

  4. Since I start with once fired brass I always case-pro before I shoot it the first time so that they all start consistently sized. My brass doesn't usually get loaded more than twice (shoot it in practice, pick it up then reload it again for match use and leave it.) When I first started shooting 9mm major I loaded several batches 4 times to see if there was any problem with it and don't recall any difficulty with sizing it. I suspect that may be a result of processing it with the case-pro before starting the process and a fairly tight chamber.

  5. If someone else was paying for the brass, and I never had to pick any up...38sc would be my choice.

I have 2 9mm guns and a set of mags that are 100% but it took a bit more effort to get there than when the same 2 guns were 38 sc.

There are more powder choices for 38 sc (though if kgunz successes in getting sp2 into the country that part of my argument would go away ).

So will I ever go back to 38 sc? No, not unless the cost of once fired 9mm goes through the roof...

Rock River is making something similar.

man, i hate to sound like a jackass, but i'm looking at the para and wondering what problem does it solve that can't be addressed by running a traditional direct impingement gun and keeping it lubed? sure, if i had the cash i'd pick up one of everything new just to have it (because it is cool to own lots of rifles). unfortunately, i don't so i'm really looking to understand what are the improvements in function that you get from these guns (the para with it's funky foot long carrier key & spring assembly, or even the more "normal looking" piston systems from patriot arms or LWRC)? best i can see is reduction in cleaning & maintenance (for the piston guns), which i would agree is a good thing. on the other hand, you really don't have to invest much effort cleaning your DI gun (unless you're being held to a traditional corps standard of being able to eat off of your bolt carrier, which is a different problem) Only benefit I can see to the Para is the folding stock - ok, maybe that's enough to sell it. personally i'd rather have something lighter with standard parts (so I can swap when/if needed) and without the requirement for extra clearance along the top.

not flaming anyone who likes piston guns or trying to promote the traditional direct impingement kool aid, but genuinely interested in understanding what other benefits there might be from some of these systems that I'm just not understanding.

I think the problem al was trying to solve was a semi-auto ar pistol without a buffer tube he could use for the long range portion of the Masters match.

  7. So when a browser connects to a webserver it indicates what kind of web browser it is. Many websites then serve a specific version based on that user agent string. Is there a setting to not push a particular skin and let it default for that particular user agent.

Currently, there isn't. Which is why I'm wondering, from posts in this thread, if each cell phone / device / browser has its own setting to turn that on or off.

    be

Not an IP board guy but I was doing a bit of googling and found this:

    http://community.invisionpower.com/resources/documentation/index.html/_/tutorials/advanced-customisations/locking-skins-to-browsers-or-search-engines-r163

It talks about how to control what skin different browsers get. Maybe that could help?

Thanks for being willing to work on this, I appreciate it.
