Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Interesting and thanks for the input. Perhaps I'll try a heavier load WITH the longer OAL. As it is, I can't really go longer on the OAL.
  2. Likely no more than 30-60 through each of the factory mags. Instead of trying to trouble shoot with a bunch of factory ammo. Maybe I'll try cycling the magazines with a dowel rod. Would the magazines being a bit oversprung result in these types of failures?
  3. A little more detail.Looks like the nose of the rounds are actually hitting the top of the barrel throat. I'm guessing this is also the cause (could be the effect) of the round not seating properly against the bolt.See additional photos below (one shot from inside the mag well). The rounds feed much better when hand cycled than when fired.Only steps I have before swearing off the Gen 1 mags for reloads (all I shoot):Try shortening up the OAL to 1.050 and/or try reducing crimp a hair to .376 or so.
  4. Have done some research without much luck. When I first received my Gen 2 MPX I quickly found my light 9mm loads (4gr RD, 115 Xtreme RN @ 1.135 OAL) would not cycle or reliably feed with Gen 1 or 2 mags but it gobbled up any and all factory loads. Second set of loads I increased charge until the gun would properly cycle but quickly found I was having severe feeding issues. Increased OAL to 1.160". Current load of 5.5gr of Unique, 115gr Xtreme plated @ 1.160" runs like a top in my single Gen 2 mag. Put the same load in my Gen 1 mags and it's constant FTF all over again. The rounds all jam in the same manner (picture below). The only other exterior spec that differs from my loads to factory is the amount of crimp and I've got my back against a wall (.377) here since I like the economics of plated bullets. All rounds pass the plunk test. Any insight here? Have a handful of Gen 1 mags I picked up at a decent price and would love to get these working. TLDR: Gen 2 MPX cycles reloads and factory ammo perfectly out of Gen 2 mags. Gun eats factory ammo with Gen 1 mags but severe FTF with reloads. Rounds at 1.160" and .377" crimp.
  5. I'll report back when I get a few rolled and down range. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
  6. Thanks for the help guys. Ordered some 200gr RN from Bayou and we'll see how they work out.
  7. I've also experienced this problem recently. Haven't tried since I tightened the shell plate down a bit though.
  8. First off, I don't compete so making PF is not a specific concern. I'm shoot for fun and have been using Xtreme 230 gr RN for most of my .45 shooting. Have a couple of boxes of their 200gr SWCs but they've proven problematic in all but one 1911. Some research after purchasing them showed that the Xtreme 200gr SWC profile seems to be especially problematic feeding in 1911s (more so than other 200gr SWC profiles). Looking to place an order for Bayou Bullets (10% off today) and am considering getting some of the 200gr RN bullets. I'm hoping they'll feed as reliably as 230gr RN with the lower cost of 200gr. Just wondering why more people don't shoot (or at least discuss) 200gr RN bullets? Any input?
  9. Cabela's has some good buys right now. Free shipping with $20 hazmat (lowest of any retailer I know). $18/1k of S&B primers 4lbers of Titegroup at $68 Free shipping, $20 hazmat, a good deal on primers, may as well throw in some Titegroup at a good price.
  10. Great stuff. Looking forward to trying it. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
  11. I have also found the 200 gr SWC to not be as accurate as other 200 gr SWC.I will add that the OAL is critical for the 200 SWC in order to get reliable feeding. For my SR1911, I have to seat the Xtreme 200 SWC at 1.230 to get consistent feeding with no 3 point hangups. For all other 200 gr SWC (Cast lubed lead, Gatway coated , MBC coated) I seat at 1.225. As always YMMV I'll have to check my notes but pretty sure I tried them in 1.230 with no luck either. When I couldn't figure it out I went looking for a solution and it seems quite a few people have had trouble with the Xtreme 200gr SWC profile. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
  12. Very interesting conversation. Thanks for the info. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
  13. Would also be interested in more information here.
  14. Thanks for all the effort in this thread. Disappointing that there's still a need for it.
  15. 230 RN have been good to go for me. I can't get the 200 SWC to feed in any 1911 reliably.
