Glockcomma
I have a 38 Super with an EGW 9 port 6 chamber comp that I want to shorten. It has 3 ports on top and 3 side ports on either side up front by the muzzle, I'd like to remove the front 4 side ports (2 chambers) I've only shot a few rounds through the gun, it is very flat and I don't want to loose that. Their is a good chance that the gun will end up being 9mm Major. Actually what I want to do is similar to what you see on most current open guns, this comp seems like it might have been better suited to the 175 power factor. The top ports are a little smaller than the ports on my other gun Brazos Thundercomp SX but I'm not sure if that is a bad thing. So what is the consensus should I fire up the dremel or hold off. rupie
Why would you cut it off? Do you think the additional ports are hurting you?
Glockcomma
Aesthetics and weight, I know it's not much weight but the 5" gun seams unwieldy with that long comp. Tim
Aircooled6racer
Hello: Since you are going to make it a 9mm major gun just keep the barrel and comp the way they are. Buy a Bedell titanium comp for your 9mm major pistol from Shooters Connection and a barrel of your choice. As they say if it shoots flat leave it alone Thanks, Eric
G-ManBart
If you like the way it shoots now (flat) and you change it, you're not going to like it as much afterwards. You may be able to change loads and get it shooting soft again, but it'll be starting at ground zero. R,

R, I guess what I want to know is how much do those last side ports do? in fact what do side ports do anyways I read that they are supposed to help counteract torque but I have never really experienced torque not even shooting Limited and some say they make the dot track more vertically how many do you need to accomplish that. sfinney
Wrap your last port of the comp, once or twice around with masking tape. Fire a shot or two, if its still there with no holes you probably don't need the port. Cut it off. Repeat.

Glockcomma
Well for anybody that's interested I just got back from shooting this pistol, I put 3 wraps of target tape on the last 2 chambers (4 ports) and shot it, a couple of times it stayed put for the first shot then blew off, most times it was just gone. So i guess those last ports get a reprieve because I still have plenty of gas to work them. This is a 38 SC I was shooting 10 grs of #7 at 1300 fps and 7.8 grs of Silhouette at 1350 fps. This gun shoots so soft and so flat it would be criminal to cannibalize this top end to go 9mm even though I'm a 9mm kinda guy. Thanks Tim
Aircooled6racer
Hello: Keep that upper and build a 9mm upper. That way you will have both and see which one you like better. I have a 9mm shorty and I am going to build a 9mm 5" to try. I want to see which one shoots better for me. Thanks, Eric

Glockcomma
The comp looks a lot like a Bedell but with one more side port per side, it has the angled baffles like a Bedell and the top ports are about the same dimensions. The gun shoots to flat for the top ports not to be working the dot goes to the top of the lens but does not leave it. Thanks Tim

Tim I remember that day well. That's me with the hack saw and my gun. Some times you have to go to extremes to finish a match. The gun still shot suprising well after that. Matt Cheely
Blowing the tape off does not equal having enough gas to be meaningful.

Tim You could always sell the super top end and have Gans Enterprise build you a 9mm top end. He has several different comp designs on his web site. If your really looking for something different Limcat does great work and has some of the most unique comp designs out there.
