I finally broke down and purchased one of each of the Tripp mags. Question I have is it OK to use Magpul followers? These came with the green USGI type which I have had problems with in the past. Thanks much for the info.

I put a magpul follower in my 52 rnd Tripp. I didn't use the green one enough to really get a comparison but I have a feeling that if that's the way he wanted it it should work just fine.

I too have both the 42 and the 52 without any modifications...for the past 3 years and no problems. Now because I was trying to make it Ranger proof I did go into the magazine and polish it a bit but? My stance is if it not broken, don't fix it!

The Magpul follower seems to work fine in the 42 rounder I had. I used it about 4 good cycles before I sold it. I never had a 52. When the PMAG extensions and Lancer mags came out....I sold my Tripp mag after the PMAG proved itself to me.

I have a 52 and also thought of changing the follower. The follower in mine looks like it's been modified (maybe due to the curvature in the mag body?), and I don't really want to try and modify a Pmag follower to fit. Maybe a CMMG stainless steel follower? It works fine the way it is, so iiabdfi!

Yeah, what he said!

BTW, I also agree about the Pmags. My Tripp works fine, but for a lot less money you can have a Pmag w/Nordic extension that will work as well.

I have a 52 and I tried the both the Magpul and CMMG followers in it. With the green Tripp follower, I've always had trouble with it feeding the first couple rounds when fully loaded. So I always downloaded it to 48. Then I tried a Magpul in it and it ran just fine, but it actually reduced its loadable capacity, so nothing really gained. This seemed really weird to me since I always seemed to gain a little extra room with Magpul followers in my USGI mags. Later I tried a CMMG SS follower in my 52, and it has run flawless even when fully loaded. But still when I'm loading my Tripp, match paranoia sets in, and I still download.

  • 1 month later...

I ran one of the Tripp 42 round mags at a number of matches last year, and it worked fine with the green follower. I did have one bobble with it at a local 3Gun match last weekend where a round didn't get stripped out by the bolt, but that's the first problem I've had with it.

I'd be curious to know if anyone's got any tips for putting something protective on the base of the mag. Mine's starting to get a little bit chewed up, and for what it cost, it'd be nice if there were some sort of rubber sleeve similar to the old Magpul ones that I could put on it.

If it aint broke, dont fix it! ?

My point is: The started of this topic is asking how to fix/if something can be done with the green follower...My stance is unless you can prove there is something wrong with the follower in the Tripp magazine don't attempt to fix it! He did state he has had problems in the past but my guess is in another magazine and not the Tripp. I love Tripps magazines even though the price is a little steep to say the least. I see the US Army team using the same concept in Daniels rifle at the nationals and on the front of the Front Sight Magazine...cool.

Scott
