Merlin Orr
IF you had only one.... would it be a 5" or a 4" gun. We have IDPA, ICORE and USPSA matches at the club I shoot with. My shooting revolver will probably be limited to local matches and truthfully I doubt I will do USPSA with a wheel gun at all.
Carmoney
I almost always say 5". But if you're going to shoot IDPA with it, you can't use a barrel longer than 4".
Merlin Orr
I almost always say 5". But if you're going to shoot IDPA with it, you can't use a barrel longer than 4". I think my IDPA club would allow me to play with a 5" gun but... I catch enough grief from my IDPA buds already for my shenanigans.... I hate to give them even more ammo. I like a 5" gun better but we have 2 IDPA matches a month and only 1 ICORE every other month...
GmanCdp
i'd get the 5 inch gun and just put a orange plastic sleeve about 1 inch long on the end of the BBL whenever you shot IDPA... . just kidding...if you are shooting that much IDPA,save yourself the grief and get the 4 inch.. Chris Christian
+1 to four inch if any IDPA is on your schedule. That barrel lenght is also not a major drawback to ICORE or USPSA. Chris Christian
Bill Nesbitt
Yeah, get a 4 inch if you're going to shoot IDPA.
steel1212
Merlin, get the 4"er. I had fun with mine in IDPA. The 5" guns are softer to shoot though.
ede
i like the way the 5" feels or balances much better than the 4".
Albert
I got a 4" 625 that I traded for and it's my IDPA gun. Used it once in a USPSA match. The 4" is more versatile if you plan to run it in IDPA.
granderojo
Two other plus for a 4" are they're usuallly easier to find and chaeper. What's to say you shouldn't have BOTH! Would make the decision on which one to shoot a lot eaiser. m2ctsw Edited December 30, 2009 by granderojo
Orvon
I prefer a longer bull barrel for my discipline. My 8 1/2" works best to keep me on target. Edited December 30, 2009 by Orvon
Merlin Orr
Well... IDPA is definitely in the future for the 625 so 4" is it. Thanks for the insights.
Boats
M 4 inch 625 used to be a 5 inch. Switched it because the best matches in my area are IDPA. It does feel different at 4 inches but not enough to make any real difference in how it performs. Boats
John Z Sr
Go 4", but to keep the IDPA rule people crazy, put an oversized cylinder release on or use "illegal" moonclip holders
Carmoney
What's to say you shouldn't have BOTH! Yeah! Since when did Merlin Orr acquire only one of anything???
Tom E
Go 4", but to keep the IDPA rule people crazy, put an oversized cylinder release on or use "illegal" moonclip holders Just get a 5" gun and paint the last 1" of barrel black so it looks like a 4". IDPA shooters won't notice.

Now John... Don't start none and there won't be none.... New thread coming on the best IDPA LEGAL moonclip holders... Go with the 5" so you won't be tempted to shoot IDPA. John Z Sr
You still have to shoot IDPA, it is fun (maybe not as much) so give in to the temtation and shoot some IDPA. Very easy to spot us USPSA shooters at an IDPA match, he with the most live rounds on the deck, it's only 3 seconds
