Ranges in the D.C. area?

Moving to D.C. (Ft. Belvoir) in Jan. I'm getting a little concerned about not finding anywhere to shoot! Any help is greatly appreciated!

Fredricksburg, VA Rod and Gun Club - home of the Area 8 championship, they have great matches there.

Also there is an indoor range in Stafford that lets you use your own ammo. So you can shoot in the winter.

Check the USPSA area 8 web site.

THANK YOU! And here I was worried that today would be my last chance to shoot for awhile.... I appreciate it!

Are you just looking for ranges or ranges that hold USPSA matches? Most of the ranges close to where you will be are going to be indoor. Here is a quick list that I am sure is not complete.

This will be the closest indoor range to FT Belvior:

Sharpshooters Small Arms Range (Formerly: Gilbert Small Arms Range)

8194-M Terminal Rd.

Lorton, Virginia 22079

(703) 550-8005

http://www.sharpshootersva.com/

This is a deluxe indoor facility that holds all kinds of matches during the month. You will have to contact them to see what they are offering.

Silver Eagle Group

44620 Guilford Drive

Ashburn, VA 20147

(703) 723-5173

http://www.silvereagle-group.com

I believe that these guys hold IDPA matches. No USPSA that I know of.

Blue Ridge Arsenal

14725 Flint Lee Rd # K

Chantilly, VA 20151-1525

(703) 818-0230

http://www.blueridgearsenal.com/

I have never been to this place, but it is mentioned all the time.

The Range - Indoor Shooting Facility

62 Potomac Creek Drive

Fredericksburg, Va. 22405

Phone (540) 720-5922

http://www.indoorrange.com/

Now if USPSA matches are your thing there are some nice clubs around. These are all outdoor clubs.

Fredericksburg Rod and Gun Club

http://www.fredericksburgps.com/

North Mountain Practical Shooters

http://northmountainps.com/

St. Charles Sportsmans Club

Waldorf, MD

Maryland Practical Shooters

Thurmont, MD

http://www.mpsa.net/

and if you want to drive a little ways for a quality match there is:

York Izaak Walton League

Dallastown, PA

http://yorkpistol.blogspot.com/

Sir Walter Gun Club

Creedmoor, NC

http://www.sirwaltergunclub.com/

Blackwater Practical Shooters

Moyock, NC

http://blackwatershooters.com/

I hope this helps and I'm sure others will chime in with more.

To add to BigT's response.

Silver Eagle holds a match every monday night. IDPA, 2 gun, 3 gun and USPSA.

Blue Ridge is supposed to be fixing their Air Handling issues. The air is bad right now. They hold IDPA matches every other wednesday i think.

The Range holds IDPA like matches in the warm months.

Other ranges "in the area" with matches are:

Anne Arundel Fish and Game (Annapolis) Hold IDPA matches

Sanners Lake (Lexington Park) hold IDPA matches.

You can also join the Yahoo Group Mid Atlantic Practical shooters. It has every match we can think of.

Black Creek Shooters Association

Mechanicsville VA

www.bcidpa.wordpress.com

We are shooting a steel match on the Saturday after Christmas. 4 stages, 80 rounds minimum.

Our regular monthly pistol match is the 2nd Saturday of the month. We have been an IDPA match (on steroids) but that is likely to change in the next few months.

Best regards,

Jim Taylor

I used to live in Dale City just down the road from Belvoir. Practiced each Friday night with a small group of uspsa/ipsc shooters at the NRA Range in Fairfax. Good and friendly crew: http://www.nrahq.org/shootingrange/nrahqrange/

You will want to catch up with Rob and gang over at Virginia Arms for supplies.

Oh man those were the good old days around here. But I didn't know that then.

I just decided to get back into practical shooting after taking some time off to save money and it seems to have just DRIED UP around here. I searched around and this was the most recent thread I could find.

There used to be monthly IPSC AND IDPA matches at shooter's paradise AND the NRA Range PLUS a monthly 3 gun in St. Charles run by Sterling. Not to mention Cowboy Action, too. It used to be there were WAY too many things to do, and now ... they're all gone.

Does anyone know of any regular matches that are within a 50 minute drive of Arlington?

I know York has really nice matches but that's a pretty serious hike for me.

Maybe I just need to move somewhere that doesn't suck?

there is a kick ass range under the NRA building.... I shot IDPA there when I worked in Mannasas... They had 3 RO's and the timer for each shooter... Kind of over kill too me.. but i guess the last thing the NRA wanted at THERE range is somebody getting hurt...

yep. no longer. I wish I knew what happened. Greg Wodack is the Manager over there and a GM. I can't imagine he got tired of having regular matches at his home range but who knows?

what a shame.

Hey- if you head to DC on I-95 or I-64 by Richmond, Va. be sure to go to the new Colonial Shooting Academy! It is right off the interstate and is the largest indoor range in the country! They have 51 lanes with a tactical range, IPDA, shoot house and great gun store/cafe. Plenty of Machine Guns. Its worth the trip just to see it! Like Scottsdale, just bigger...

Yes to Winchester (aka North Mountain PS), yes to MCB Quantico, not sure about public access to Ft Meade anymore. Summit Point is holding USPSA this weekend. Fredericksburg 3G Dec 2nd. During the season, you can shoot almost every weekend within 1.5 hr drive of NoVA.

Here is a thread with a shooting calender for VA, WV, DC, MD area: http://www.ar15.com/...3_Mar_2012.html

Black Creek Steel matches are awesome. I've only been to one so far but it was a good time. I keep telling myself I'm going to go to more but it's a bit of a hike for me.

Fredericksburg puts on a real good match every month too. I try not to miss it. I have video of both on my youtube.
