MPK
Had the ejection port on my Springfield 1911 45acp lowered last Aug. Since then I have been getting sprayed in the face about twice every 10 shots. Has been sugested it may be cause by using old brass or I should use a heavier recoil spring, to keep the slide closed longer. I am now using a 16lb spring. The load I use is a 200 gr. SWC with 5.2-5.3 of win.231. Has any one ever had this problem.
Chriss Grube
You need to have the ejector tuned.
reneet
Not an uncommon problem. Hard to say how to fix it without seeing. Would need to see the job done lowering your port. May be able to fix by recutting your ejection port. Alternately, tune ejector to change angle.
MPK
I should make it clear its not the brass that is hitting me. I assume it is powder or maybe lead that is being sprayed in my face.
sfinney
Was anything else done to the gun at the time of the ejection port lowering, like say, an over aggressive ramp and throat job? Are your primers getting pierced when fired? Do you shoot left handed?
TheOtherErik
Try some factory ammo andsee if it still happens.
mcoliver
Reaching here but you may want to check your FP stop also. See if it has been aggressively contoured. Drop a "normal" one and check again. HTH
MPK
Firing pin stop my be my problem. I have noticed excessive wear, edges are all but gone. Will let you know how I make out. Thanks to all that replied.
Ross Carter
Check your extractor tension, if it's too loose it will cause eratic ejection. That's a fairly light load so a 16lb spring shouldn't be too light.
Jager1147
You might want to try a different powder, that might change everything without touching the gun. You're probably getting sprayed with unburnt powder.
