sniperdog
I have a S & W Model 610 with 3" brl amd want a good leather holster for IDPA. WHere do I start looking ? Currently have a Blade-Tec and I like it but really would prefer a leather in brown.
Boats
You will get a lot of opinions on this one, Leather is personal. Milt Sparks is one of the best, 6 month wait. Thing to do if Sparks is buy a Don Hume to use while waiting for your holster then throw it away when Sparks deliverers. Hand made with faster delivery El Paso leather can't be beat about a 6 week wait. El Paso has more revolver choices than Sparks. Have both and think they are the best two available. RickB
I'm using a Don Hume 721 OT with my 4" M22, and it's OK. The one thing (one thing) I don't like about it is that the opening is un-reinforced, so holstering can require a bit of off-hand manipulation to get the gun in cleanly. It's not a huge issue, but if I were a revo specialist, rather than just a dabbler, I'd want something else.
Boats
Best thing about Hume is you can get one fast and they are not expensive, Design is OK but lots of concessions to cost, leather is a bit thin and machine stitched. El Paso has good designs and best quality leather, but still machine stitched. Sparks great design best qualty leather and hand stitched and fitted. Hand stiching is a signifigant advantage, thread breaks they don't unravel like a machine stitch does. Boats
ima45dv8
Sparks is the best leather I've found for the price, which isn't cheap, but a good value. You can maybe eliminate the wait time by not ordering direct. Their lead times on direct orders are high since most of their efforts go into supplying their stocking dealers (what I was told once when I called). Use this link and scroll down to the bottom to see their list of stocking dealers. I've had very pleasant experiences with "Lightning Arms", but I'm sure any of them would be a good source: http://www.miltsparks.com/Ordering.htm

It is his now :-)
Doublehaul
Milt Sparks PMK in Horsehide w/ Shark trim. About $120 and 5 months wait. I have one for my 686/696 and it's great. The fit is perfect and it's quite fast and concealable. I say Horsehide because it lasts longer and holds it's rigidity and the Shark trim will add some durability to the mouth. If you want a straight drop, the Milt Sparks #55BN is the way to go. Same materials and same cost.
Boats
Milt Sparks just delivered a PMK for my 625 3 inch. Can't imagine a better carry holster for that big revolver. Total time order to mailbox was 5 months. Shooting same gun IDPA use a Comp-Tac Kydex This was my first revolver holster from Sparks, others have been IWB's for Automatics. I also use the El Passo Steet Combats but to my eye they are better suited to a smaller revolver. Could be wrong, never seen one in person for a N Frame. My two holsters carry a 342 and 2 inch M 10 Boats Edited May 29, 2009 by Boats
JakeMartens
Now that Lou Alessi has unfortunately passed away John Ralston is a real close second to Lou's work http://www.5shotleather.com Josh Bulman would be another close second http://www.bulmangunleather.com/
