D.Hayden
You'll probably get a lot of varying opinions on rifle crimp. Many people don't crimp rifle rounds at all. I do a very light crimp, it's just lik crimping a pistol, but since there's no flare from the power drop, it's much more subjective.
Wanted
I hear ya on the opinions. People I've talked to think it's best for an AR.
norbs007
What BerKim said...good for ARs.
D.Hayden
Sorry - I only shoot .223 in ARs. Just assumed that on this forum.. Still, I'd say of all the people that shoot 3 Gun here.. it's still maybe 50/50?
SingleStacker45
If you are going to crimp be sure to trim the cases to uniform length and probably sort the headstamps too. I'd trim them every time anyway just in case you get some range brass mixed in. If the length is not consistant you'll have trouble with the crimp being consistant. mecury
I crimp all my Hornady 55gr. SP w/cann .223 for my AR-15 with the Lee FCD. It applies the same crimp, even if my brass is of different (.0005) LENGTH.
Dan Sierpina
I represent the other group. I don't crimp rifle ammo.
anachronism
I crimp with a LEE FCD. It's about the only thing they make that I approve of. I trim my brass after every firing, so life's easy there. I set the seating die so the crimp die crimps in the middle of the cannelure. This way I have some room to maneuver if I'm off slightly somewhere. I only crimp enough to slightly turn the case mouth in to the cannelure.
