Sean Gaines
I have a gun that was hard chromed and it wasn't prepped as good as I would like and I would also like to lighten the slide, how do you remove the hc, is it something that can easily done with a chemical and some elbow grease? Whats the best way to do it? Thanks in advance Sean
Jim Watson
The usual recommendation is to have a plating shop "de-plate" it by reverse polarity, just the opposite of applying the plating. Brownells has the chemistry for it, but it is rather expensive for one job -$60- and you have to have a good stout battery to drive it. If you get an easy answer let us know. I have an old Colt in ugly penetrated nickel plate that I would like to start over on. Edited April 15, 2009 by Jim Watson
