dbagwell
Can anybody tell me whether or not the XD magazines drop free? I've shot Glocks and Sig Pros in Production, but hate that you have to reach up and rip the mags out. I understand that this is an "engineered feature" in the Sig and the Glocks are more of a "slow drop"...sorry Glock fans. What are the XDs like? Putty
Ask the experts at Springerprecision.com Scott is a wizard with those guns and knows all about them.
Stony Lane
XD magazines drop free. You do not have to pull them out. Edited December 23, 2008 by Stony Lane
technetium-99m
Mine always fell right out, no reaching up to strip it out. GT
Viggen
With the Glock some mags are drop-free, some old ones are not drop-free. With the XD the magazines are drop-free. Be aware that shooter technique can cause just about any gun not to drop.

I have never heard of Sig mags having a problem ... but I do know that some of the older Glock mags occassionally had that problem. Nonetheless, the XD mags slide out like butter! XD Niner
Stainless steel mags - good! They drop out easily. Plastic mags - not so good.

I shoot a Sig Pro, so I can't speak for all Sig models. While shooting, the top cartridge in the Sig Pro magazine slides forward just enough to prevent the magazine from dropping freely, if attempted while cartridges are still in the magazine. dbagwell
Thanks everyone for your replies. Just to be clear, I'm not asking about dropping empty mags, I'm asking about dropping mags that still have rounds in them.
bobert1
Thanks everyone for your replies. Just to be clear, I'm not asking about dropping empty mags, I'm asking about dropping mags that still have rounds in them. The weight does help. If your concerned about the mags slightly bowed from the rounds still inside, DON'T. they have always dropped for me on all occasions.
technetium-99m
Never been a problem with my XD, have always dropped free now matter how full they were.
redmanfixit
I run an XD 9mm Tactical 5". Ditto on the mags dropping free. I like this gun. I also like Scott at Springer. Nice trigger parts!!!
