77grn LC--LR

HOP,

Ok, I have the specs from NAVSEA Warfare (Crane) which states:

AA53, MK 262 MOD 1 ballastic charts:

Sierra Bullet: .224 dea. 77 gr. HPBT MatchKing

MK 12 SPR (18") velocity @ 3,000 FPS

I am guessing you can get the Coefficients from Sierra. The load is pretty hot to say the least, I load a Nosler 77 gr. at 2,725 from my JP and it hits as hard as I want it to. If you load to the above FPS you might run into some wear to say the least for a three gun game.

Hope this helps,

Scott

I chrono'd a batch of the army's 77's and got 2780 fps out of my 20" barrel.

I obtained the same velocity using Hogdgon's Benchmark powder. You'll have to work up your own powder charge as I can't remember what it was.

"Some of the older lots of 262 had cannelured bullets."

Two versions of the round have been procured to date. Initial production runs, designated Mark 262 Mod 0, lacked a cannelure. Subsequent production, designated Mk 262 Mod 1, added a cannelure to the bullet to improve seating in the cartridge case.

Definitely Sierra.

  • 3 weeks later...

Update on the 77grn LC-LR (The real stuff)

In MY Sabre Defence 18 inch it averaged 2653 MPH !!!

At 200 yds with my 1x4 Leupold set at 4 and very good sandbags ect. I got a 1 1/2+ (but not quite 1 3/4) 5 shot group :):):)

At 100 yds it shoots half an inch lower than my 55 grn stuff. At 200 it is pretty much the same point of impact as my 55 grn stuff.

That is all I got to test today. Will do more before the big show at Benning.

Edit to add the 1 3/4 thing

With testing and some addition, subtraction, multiplication and division I came up with 22 inches high at 200yds is 0 at 500 yds.

Sure hope those targets are painted a good different color than the background, as my 4x sure doesn't bring things close at much past 250 yds.

Am glad they shoot well though. :D
