"You can't get Porsche performance on a Volkswagon budget.

Speed costs money....how fast do you want to go?"

Said by my buddy Brian Sain to his command staff when they asked why their SWAT team needed so much money for training and more training time.

I also liked his reply to a commander who thought that once a month was fine for a SWAT team to practice.

Brian: "You have kids sir?"

Reply:" Yes I do."

Brian: " Do they play sports?"

Reply: "Yes they do."

Brian: "Baseball? Football?"

Reply:" My kids do a variety of sports but they do play baseball and football"

Brian:" They practice .....what? 2 times a week for baseball?"

Reply: "They have practice every day after school and they do before school workouts sometimes. They also have weekend practices and games."

Brian: "So basically the kids that PLAY A GAME practice more than the SWAT team does that is tasked with saving peoples lives? Lemme ask you something sir...How much practice do YOU want the guy to have thats behind the rifle when its YOUR kid or wife being held hostage? Do you want the guy that just had the minimum requirement or the guy that got all the training there was to be had?"

Point,set,match.

Gotta love those Texas boys.

Reminds me of a story about the early days of military aviation.

When told that the army wanted to buy a numbe of airplanes, President Woodrow Wilson suggested that they just buy one and everyone take turns flying it . . . .

And MORE military theme . . .

1. The nation that distinguishes between people of intelligence and people of courage will find its thinking done by cowards and its fighting done by fools.

2. Never wear a new uniform into combat. The enemy may think you're important, or the fly might not work.

3. If you notice nobody is close by, you are either drawing fire, too far forward, or something is incoming.

4. If everyone has a screen or a read-out, who's watching the tree line?

5. My personal favorite (from O. von Bismarck): You can do anything in the world with bayonets except sit on them.
