Something similar to WWB

I've been shooting WWB 115's (in the 100 round value pack from Wal-Mart) lately in my G17, and I'd like to load something similar for my first attempt at reloading, to act as a "jumping-off point" for further experimentation. What powder and charge will I need...does anyone know what powder Winchester uses in the WWB's?

My press just came in yesterday (thanks Brian, BTW!), so I figured I'd stick with what I know runs the gun till I gain a little more confidence and experience.

My first suggestion would be to experiment a little as the 115 gr WWB is a little snappy IMO. I don't think there are many using 115's when they're rolling their own.

I would definitely try at least 124 gr as they will shoot noticeably softer at the same PF. There are many that are shooting 147 gr bullets although some claim that it feels a little sluggish with the heavier bullet.

Whatever bullets you do go with, try to go with a JHP or something that is fully encapsulated so you don't have as much smoke as you would with open base (FMJ)'s bullets. The former are usually around the same price so there's no reason not to.

I would also aim for improving over the WWB. Why aim for "D's" when you can aim for "A's".

With that in mind, my first attempt if I was to do it all over again would be

Precision Delta Bullets. At least 124gr.

Tightgroup Powder at the starting load for your type bullet.

Load 10 of the starting load. 10 with a .2 gr more, 10 with another .2 gr more. Always staying .2 away from Max load at min. Then shoot the starting and see if they cycles the gun reliable. Shoot the other's and watch for pressure or other unussual things. I ussually find the round that will barely cycle the gun (would probably stovepipe weak handed), adding .2 gr of tightgroup will ussually make the gun reliable. Then experiment from that point.

I had the same idea when I started reloading. I shoot 115gr Precision Delta bullets with 4.6 gr of Titegroup. Out of my M&P it has the same velocity as WWB, about 1140 to 1150 fps. My gun likes the load, so I like it too. I do however shoot 125 gr lead for practice but that is only because I can get it real cheap.
