austinkroe
I am thinking of having a 9mm Major STI built and I have no clue about barrels. I want to know what the right direction is for a barrel that can handle the load and stay accurate. I plan on using 124gr JHP (they are what I have around and I dont think I want to try 9maj w/ 115s). I want to be knowledgeable on the topic before I talk to the smith. Can you guys help me out? Which brands are preferred for 9maj? Barrel twist? Anything to avoid? Other considerations? Bull or Cone? Freebore (how much)? TIA
shred
I'd pretty much go with what the smith recommends. If they've build 9's before, they'll know what works. If they haven't.. you might want to find another smith. Any good brand barrel maker should be fine.
HSMITH
I have used KKM and Schuemann, both work fine with the Schuemann being a TON easier to fit. You are going to hold the smith responsible for making it work, let him spec out the barrel and associated set up.
Jon Merricks
I really like the trubors S-1 then the S-2. I think if you want one shorter than 5" you might can get one from Brazos.
Kingman
I use clark's and schuemann's The schuemann is easier to fit, mainly because it is softer. My worry with the 9 is will that softer metal be a detrament. The clark is hard metal.
rwmagnus
Mines a Clark, but I like the advise above to find a builder who makes a 9mm run and let him build it.
