Victory for Brady Bunch.......?

With the "Keep your enemy's close" thought in mind I am on the Sarah Brady mailing list. NOT meaning to antagonize anyone with this but here is how the Sarah Brady Group feel about the NRA deal with congress.

Victory: Bill That Strengthens Brady Backgrounds Checks Passes U.S. House

Dear Merlin,

That’s right! You read it correctly. With your help, we’ve been asking legislators, “What are YOU going to do about gun violence?”

And we got our first BIG answer yesterday, when, by a voice vote, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 2640 to strengthen Brady background checks!!

The bill, introduced by Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) requires states to automate their lists of convicted criminals and the mentally ill who are prohibited from buying firearms.

It also requires states to report those lists to the FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) that was enacted with passage of the Brady Law.

And now this important bill is moving swiftly to the U.S. Senate and we need your help today to make sure it gets passed.

Please make a generous contribution of $15.00 or more today to help us make this happen.

Surprisingly, the NRA supports the bill. The Virginia Tech shootings were a horrific reminder of the gaps in U.S. gun laws. The gun lobby knew its usual opposition to any and every solution we brought forward would be unacceptable to the American public so it made this concession.

But we know we still have much more to do to keep guns out of the wrong hands and that the gun lobby will oppose us as we move forward with other sensible steps. We will work to push Congress to extend Brady background checks to all gun sales — especially those at gun shows.

To do the work ahead, we need your support today to sustain this strong momentum. This is the BEST time for you to make a contribution to help our fight to make Brady background checks stronger ... step-by-step we are making progress.

Show us what YOU’RE going to do to help stop gun violence by making a contribution of $15.00 or more right now.

Thanks for your support! We’ll keep you posted ...

Sincerely,

Sarah Brady, Chair

What a crock! The NRA wholeheartedly endorsed it. It had nothing to do with keeping guns out of our hands but the hands of whacko's.

It all boils down to the fact that in the case of the VA Tech shootings the government (VA and US) is the one that dropped the ball. If his mental illness would have been properly reported he wouldn't have been able to buy the guns and he could have been prosecuted for commiting a felony by just trying to buy them.

This bill is a no brainer. It should have been taken care of the first time. It's HR 1022 that's a threat to us.

". . . every solution we brought forward . . ."

I think it should be obvious to everyone that Sarah Brady has a FINAL SOLUTION in mind for every firearm in private hands in the U.S. and it involves melting them down in furnaces as they did in Australia.

Think she's happy now & will back off? More likely, the anti gun forces are emboldened by their "victory" and will come after our guns even more in the coming months.

Not looking forward to 2008. Have you joined/renewed membership in GOA, NRA, or another pro-gun group of your choice?

Isn't it nice we have to pass another bill (law), when we already have a law that does the same thing. It is a simple matter of enforcement. When you check off on the 4473, that you are not a mental deficient, shouldn't NICS have that information already?

+1 on that. As I understand it, what the bill just passed did was provide FUNDING to do what

they were supposed to be doing all along, but didn't have the money for. That doesn't sound

like a bad thing. I have not read the text of the Bill, so I have no idea what else may have

been stuck in there. Anybody actually read what was passed?

Bill
