This may be a no-brainer to everyone here, but I thought I'd share this experience just in case:

I was shooting a stage with blind areas that required peering around barricades to engage multiple targets. In the middle of the stage, I peer around to engage two targets and quickly see that they are not taped and both have 2-A hits on them. My brain says to stop and turn my head to the RO and say so. He just looks back at me and says to keep going unless he says to stop. I continue after losing around 5 seconds or so and finish the stage. Afterwards I asked him what my options were at the time. There were zero no-shoots in that area so I guess there was really no issue as long as I engaged the targets so the RO could note that. If I had skipped them, he would have penalized me. I'm not sure what would have happened if there was an untaped no-shoot at the same point?

I guess my only tip was to keep going unless they say STOP....

Or you're hearing protection falls/knocks off. Then you are allowed to stop yourself.

The RO might not see it and it hurts shooting a stage without muffs.

I know. ^_^

Depends on the size of holes and whether or not the actual shots could be determined otherwise you should have been granted a reshoot.

9.1.4 Unrestored Targets – If, following completion of a course of fire

by a previous competitor, one or more targets have not been

properly patched or taped in preparation for the competitor being

scored, or if there are extra scoring or questionable penalty hits

thereon, and it is not obvious to the Range Officer which hits

were made by the competitor being scored, the affected competitor

must be ordered to reshoot the course of fire.

US9.1.4 Unrestored targets - If, following completion of a course of fire

by a previous competitor, one or more targets have not been

properly patched or taped for the competitor being scored, the

Range Officer must judge whether or not an accurate score can

be determined. If there are extra scoring hits or questionable

penalty hits thereon, and it is not obvious which hits were made

by the competitor being scored, the affected competitor must be

ordered to reshoot the course of fire.

I have seen a couple of people do that.

It happens.

I was somehow smart enough to to keep shooting but tell the RO about it while I was shooting.

"hey bam bam these targets bam bam didn't get bam bam paisted bam bam"

Did it twice.

I had this happen this weekend in an IDPA stage. Fortunately, the SO saw it, and watched carefully for my hits.

One target had four -0 hits, the other had three -0 and one -1 hit. The previous shooter shot the stage completely clean (I scored for him), so it was pretty obvious which holes I was responsible for.
