No it looked like Chuck got strait caught to me. Looked like a strait punch after Rampage got top postion to flatten chuck out and go limp for a second. I'll have to watch it again, did rampage catch him with a downward elbow? I would of liked to see Big John let it go another 5 seconds to see how stunned chuck really was and if he could recover. They usually give the champ more time before the pull the stoppage.

What about that knee that Jardine ate. That was fully illegal. Jardine had one knee on the ground clearly. We all jumped up screaming at the TV. Granted I think he was pretty much through at that point.

I believe downward elbows where you come strait down and strike with the point of the elbow are illegal in the ufc. Granted you see quite a few of them every show. Kneeing or kicking the a guy in the head while he is on the ground or has one knee one the ground is also illegal but they usually call that one and deduct a point and give the guy time to recover.

 (My impression of jardine trying to get up)

Chuck just got caught keeping his hand too low. I would have liked to see if chuck could recover. He was getting up just as big john called it but his eyes were rolling around like a drop of water on hot grease.

Yar is right. You cannot come with a downward elbow striking with the point in the UFC. Chuck got hit right in the temple and that's when he flattened out. The main camera angle had John McCarthy in the way so it looked like a punch, but from other angles you could definetely see that illegal elbow. I also think Chuck was recovering, as soon as the John stepped in, Chuck's hands went up to defend himself again. I don't think it was stopped too early, but I would have liked to see him wait a bit longer.

Oh, and btw, I wanted Rampage to win.

I have watched and re-watched it...can't seem to see the phantom elbow. However, all things being equal, how many times have we seen Chuck cheat by grabbing the fence to avoid a takedown.

I was so pissed after that fight... Liddell has been my favorite fighter for the past few years and it sucks to see him lose. I enjoy Rampage as he's such an entertaining fighter but def. wanted Liddell to win. It will be interesting to see who he fights next.

This has totally been the year of the upset in the UFC. What's next???

St. Pierre

Cro Cop

Liddell

Who's next?

In Jackson's post fight interview, he actually says "and there I elbowed him". Looking at the angle, yes there was an elbow. The elbow I saw was definitely swinging though, which is legal under UFC rules. A driving elbow isn't allowed, the strike must be swinging like a pendulum.

These fights get stopped too quickly, Liddell was stunned but moving to defend himself. That was McCarthy's second bad stoppage of the night, the first being Dean Thomas' win - yes Thomas was likely a winner regardless 3 seconds later but the kid clearly didn't tap when McCarthy stopped the fight. Usually I'm railing against poor officiating from Herb Dean (failed fighter, failed referee) but tonight was McCarthy's night to take a bow for the Vegas sportsbook.

On a personal note, I'm rooting for anyone to shut Quinton Jackson up - I can't stand that WWE smack talk BS. Dana White wants this sport to be a circus and is happy to host anyone that will drag the dialog into the gutter.

I realize it's a pretty fine line when a ref stops some one. BUT CHUCK ISN'T A BABY! He's the champ for crying out loud.. or was. i fully believe another 3 seconds and he would have wrapped up jackson... or been really knocked out. This was BS in stopping the fight that fast. I've seen this problem more than once, and at that level. I think we need to put in for a CRO call... or CREF lol.

I too thought that Big John stopped the fight too early because as soon as he jumped at Rampage Chuck was able to roll. However, when Chuck was in his corner he was asking John Hackleman what happened? That right there says it all. It's one thing to have Rampage win but because he won so early in the fight it makes it all the worse. If Chuck got KO'ed in the 3rd round it wouldn't have been as bad so long as he hit Rampage a few times. Hopefully he'll get a chance for a remach in a few months? I wonder how this will affect the UFC financially because Chuck is the most marketable fighter and as champ he draws such a crowd. I hope he hasn't lost any fans because of this fight. It's funny how people jump on the bandwagon when someone is on a winning streak and as soon as they lose they move onto someone else. I've been a fan of Liddell since he KO'ed Randleman and Frank Mir.
