So anyways I took the gun all apart to get DLC coated. Got it almost back together tonight except for the damn sear spring. I can't figure out how it goes in correctly. I can put it in but it just flops around. I know the really short side is the sear side.

I just did a sear spring install yesterday on my Shadow 2.

 

The secret is you have to put something under the sear cage for the spring to lay on.  I used a larger punch laying flat and taped to my workbench. Then simply lay the cage on the front of the punch.  This gives you a stable platform to apply pressure to the sear spring.

 

The next step I did was get a smaller punch through the sear pin hole and spring.  Finally I backed out the punch with the sear pin.

 

Also there are a few good youtube videos showing how the spring should be oriented.

 

Btw I did the spring install with the sear cage removed from the frame.

Make a slave pin. Assemble the cage outside the frame.

The pin for a standard 75/shadow 2 that holds the spring plugs works perfect for a slave pin FYI.

 

The short side is on the hammer side pointed up toward the slide
