Viggen
What would be the difference between a S&W 627-4 and a 627-6( I think it was a 6) Were there modifications or improvements or what happened? And when did they start putting in that hammer lock thingie?
Carmoney
The 627-4 is the .38 Super version. It has the thingie. The 627-5 is the 5-inch "standard" version in .38/.357. It has the thingie, too. Not sure if there is a 627-6......

Viggen
Thanks folks. I guess it was a 627-5 but couldn't remember for sure. So that's the 38/357 version
R112mercer
My 627 is a -3, PC .38/.357 Eight Shooter with removable comp and muzzle cap. No lock, but I think that's a function of age rather than -#. Mine's from about 2002-3, before they started fitting the locks.
itchy
Does anybody know what a 627 costs nowadays? Thanks, Itchy
underlug
Does anybody know what a 627 costs nowadays? Thanks, Itchy They MSRP for about $1100 now. Nobody ever pays that. When I see them new on the lists, people try to get $850-900. The .38 supers are rarer and go for a bit more. I would try to pick one up used.....Smith forum, Glocktalk, Auction Arms...etc.
Carmoney
Saw a new recent-production 627 .357 at the gun show in Des Moines today for $799. Saw another one for $899.
festus1
There is a 627 v-comp on the S&W forum classified and a 27-7 on Guns America # 976658354. There were only 100 of the 27-7 's made with the 6 1/2 inch barrel. Chris (Let me know if referring to other boards is not OK.)
