Non-supported Barrel

ok you gunsmiths-anyone ever fit a standard un-supported barrel into a frame that was cut for a fully ramped supported barrel? i came across an old frame that is cut, but wanna use a basic .45 barrel on it...sure looks strange, but i'm just wondering what would happen. rounds actually feed into the barrel just fine, but i sure as heck ain't firing it yet.

The lugs will probably shear off the barrel, since they will only contact at the bottom. I've seen a frame that sheared off the lugs off of 2 barrels because the cut was not square. This is addition to what Benny said about feeding. It might feed while hand cycling, but not with the violence of normal cycling.

3 choices,

1. weld it up and mill it

2. Buy another barrel (least expensive of the 3)

3. Buy a new Frame

you could do 2 and 3 :)

the bottom lug of the non-ramped barrel rests on a part of the frame which is removed to facilitate the ramp. also, since the feed ramp is removed from the frame for the ramped barrel, i don't see how it could possibly feed.
