MuayThaiJJ
A RO buddy really wants a MKIV but in our state it is almost impossible since it’s not on roster. I’m recommending he get a Buckmark which is readily available and upgrade it. Any recommendations on good upgrades for it? I found the Tandemkross Racegun kit and think a TacSol barrel with compensator would also be good. thanks! kmca
Ok. If he's going to shoot optics, add a rail and a red dot. The slide racker might be handy if he has trouble gripping the slide. Mag base pads are nice, makes seating magazines easier. No need for extended mag release, if you need to do a speed reload, you've lost that string anyway. Tacsol barrels are pretty, not sure if it helps shooting though. I've got Rugers and Buckmarks. One Buckmark was very problematic. It spent the better part of a year going between gunsmiths and Browning service, mostly due to Covid restrictions and one incompetent gunsmith. Only parts I've had to replace on the Ruger was an extractor and mag springs, haven't had to replace anything on the Buckmark. I keep a few extractors on hand, just in case. It seems the Buckmarks take a little longer to break in than the Rugers.
MuayThaiJJ
No internals upgrades like the Volquartsen accurizing kit on the Mark series?
kmca
Did one on a Ruger and didn't think it was necessary. Remember, you're trying to get off 5 shots very quickly, so squeezing the trigger probably isn't happening. Only thing I did on the Buckmark was flip the spring (Heggis Flip), not even sure that was necessary. I do add some epoxy and silicon carbide to the rear of the slide to make racking easier. Bwenning
I put the Volquartsen hammer in mine and was very happy with the results, it really improves the trigger. It's been a couple years since I did this, but don't remember any difficulties. I've attached a guide I found after I did mine that may be helpful. BlackLion
I have installed the following parts on my Buck Mark: Tactical Solutions Trail-Lite 4” Threaded Barrel Tactical Solutions Trail-Lite .900 Compensator Tandemkross Victory Trigger; Textured Allchin Browning Buckmark STS Mount Vortex Viper Red Dot Sight; 6 MOA The weight of the gun was significantly reduced when I replaced the original 5.5" Camper UFX steel barrel with the TacSol aluminum barrel. I feel this improves handling and allows me to drive the gun faster to/through the next targets. In Steel Challenge, you're not reloading on the clock so I didn't bother with an oversized magazine release and basepads. For RFPO; I use the Allchin STS Mount with a Vortex Viper. The Viper's Picatinny mount is removed and the optic attaches directly to the mount. This brings the optic closer to the bore by eliminating the added height of a Picatinny Rail and Mount. OuterImpact sells a similar mount that is compatible with a wider variety of optics. For RFPI; Dawson Precision sells a Fiber Optic Front Sight. Flageo
By the time you buy a buckmark and add a barrel, etc you will have almost spent enough to buy a Volquartsen scorpion. Get everything you want right out of the box. You know the old saying "buy once, cry once" Good luck with your decision.
