mjkten
I have a 9mm SA XDS that won't lock back with my two hand hold...I know that's a "limp wrist" type malfunction, and it doesn't usually happen holding the pistol at arms length one handed. The kicker is I've never had a problem like that with any of my other handguns. I sent it back to SA one time and they replaced the slide release. That seemed to fix it, but I don't shoot this one too much. I decided to take it out today and put a couple hundred rounds through it. About the fourth magazine it started up again, shoot the mag empty, slide stayed down. Is there something I can do or check or clean? I hate the process of sending a gun off... Thanks, Mike. Sarge
What loads are you running through it? Maybe to weak to get it all the way back. Run some self defense loads through it and see what it does.
mjkten
I shot some FM 147 gr, bunny farts almost, and some 115 gr Hornady critical defense.
mjkten
Before I also shot winchester 124 gr NATO load... I suppose I can try a few more different types of ammo. Maybe something +P. And let someone else shoot it. Edited June 2, 2018 by mjkten more info
dthomas1003
Check your grip and make sure you're not riding the slide stop/release with your thumb. It's a very easy thing to do during a course of fire. The thumb can migrait a little without notice.
Larry White
Weak mag springs or dirty mags can also cause that.---------------Larry
Broncman
Is it always the same mag? Put an empty mag in, rack the slide and see if it holds open. Could be mag issue as well.
mjkten
I am of course embarassed to admit I figured it out. It wasn't exactly a limp wrist malfunction, but a high grip malfunction. I was riding the slide release with my strong hand. Now I have to use a different grip on that gun. I shoot it well enough, but basic manipulation is different than a full size pistol. Zmaniac
Had the same problem due to strong hand thumb engaging SL, had to train to wrap it over base of support thumb.

I sold the XDs and bought an M&P shield 9mm, problem solved.
