Tom Freeman
Max loads for the regular 280/7 Express are good starting loads for the Ackley. H4350 or N165 and Sierra Gamekings are a real good place to start. Also try mag vs non mag primers. Some help, some hurt the ES and SD.

lneel
I have a .280 Ackley Imp with a 26" Pac-Nor and use 140gr Nosler B.T.'s with 59.5gr Reloader 22. Not a hot load but does the job and is very accurate in my gun. I load as long as possible, about .050" short of the rifling in the barrel. benny hill
In my gun this is a safe load, but be careful. IMR4350, 61.0 grs w/ a nosler 140 gr. part. 26" barrel, 3371 fps
Stumpnav
Hop, I remember an article written by Kenny Jarrett in Precision Shooting a few years back about the virtues of the 280 Improved. I am digging through old issues looking for the article. I'll let you know as soon as I find it.
Stumpnav
Hop, I finally found it. I'm like a puppy chasing butterflies in the field. I chase one until the next one flits in front of my face then I chase it. I start looking through old gun magazines and find great articles to read and forget what I was looking for in the first place. This info is from an article by Kenny Jarrett that appeared in the April 1996 issue of Precision Shooting. These are his pet loads and of course he recommends to approach them with caution and start 2 grains below. 58.5 of IMR 4350 140 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip Federal 210 primers Federal Brass 61.0 of RL 19 140 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip WLR primers Federal Brass 63.0 of IMR 7828 140 gr Sierra Pro Hunter WLR or Fed 215 Primers Federal Brass 59.0 of RL 19 160 gr Nosler Partition WLR primer Fed or Rem Brass 58.5 of RL 22 160 gr Nosler Partition WLR primer Fed Brass 55.0 of IMR 4350 160 gr Nosler Partition Fed 215 primer Fed Brass
tightloop
My experience is the same as Benny's..only I use 60.5 gr of IMR 4350, Regular primer and seat it long to within .01 of the lands.. With a 140 Sierra and a real 26 tube, I get 3309fps and it shoots into .44" if I do my part..
