MrRick
I'm looking to see what velocities are you guys getting out of your 223s with 55gr pills out of a 14.5 barrel. I'm loading 26.6gr of CFE223 with Hornady 55gr Sp and measuring them at 2632 FPS avg.
TonytheTiger
I did once. But I forgot all the numbers. Perhaps I'll do it this weekend for giggles and report back.
Hoosiershooter
Not a 14.5" but 18" yesterday. I'm pushing 55's with 27.2 grains of CFE and making 2997 avg. I'd say your numbers sound about right. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
MrRick
I going to push them a bit more and see where it takes me.
Hoosiershooter
Obviously take this with caution, but CFE has been pretty safe over max. I've pushed it without any pressure signs. I'm really happy with it especially the consistent metering from the DPM. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
MrRick
Well I stopped at 26.8 because I was seeing flat primers but I realized that it was due to one specific head stamp so I no longer use that head stamp (GFL).
wgj3
I got 52/53gr Hornady v-max's to right at 3100 with H335 out of my 14.5" Spikes barrel. Same round was around 3250 out of my 18" Nordic barrel. I only use these rounds on targets past 200 yds. I run my 55's @ 2100 for everything else.
Stangs55
I chrono my 14.5" Larue Costa everytime we go to the range together. While I don't shoot 55gr, I get about 2400 fps out of my 73gr berger load
ERIC
Remington UMC 223 55gn factory ammo 18" JP 1:8 barrel - 3,060 fps 14.5" Noveske 1:7 barrel - 2,843 fps Average from 3 shots.
Dannybot
I was having difficulties with making shots beyond 200 yards with my SBR, so I decided to chrono some rounds to calculate the bullet drop. I also chronoed rounds out of my M4 clone, since I had been able to shoot it out to 500 yards at the same venue in years past. Here are theloads I checked through my CMMG 14.5" chrome M4 barrel: Independence M193 = 3100 - 3150 fps. Wolf Gold 2779-2845 fps. My favorite plinking load: 55gr FMJBT H4198 @ 19 gr = 2700 fps Hornady 55gr VMax 8208 xbr @ 23.5gr =2772 fps SMK 69 gr 8208 xbr @22.0 gr = 2542 fps For comparison these same loads out of my 10.5" Rainier Select SS barrel were: Independence M193=2800 fps Wolf Gold = 2610 fps plinker 55gr H4198@ 19.7 = 2330 VMax 55 gr @ 23.5 8208 xbr = 2425 fps SMK 69 gr 8202xbr @22.0 gr = 2095 testing was done on a calm, sticky, sunny 95 deg day at about 150 ft msl elevation. I have an 18" rifle, but never bothered to check velocities through that one because I didn't want to shoot all my ammo in testing with a match around the corner. I've chronoed loads of 25.5 grains of 8208XBR at 3025 out of a 14.5 barrel. Slightly flattened primers in 5.56 LC brass and using 55gr FMJBT-C Armscor cheap bullets. Similar results with the Hornady 55gr FMJBT-C as well.
