Black sights-dark target

Recommended Posts

I lose the ability to distinguish the space to the left and right of the fiber optic front sight as I get further away from a target, especially if it's a dark taget such as the B targets used in PPC. I am 'older', wear no-line glasses and have less than normal color vision. Essentailly what I see at the 25 yard line is a black block with a glowing dot. I can certainly put the dot on the target but I don't know whether I'm left, right, or what. The black rear notch merges with the black front sight post with the exception of the fiber optic.

Solutions?

Get your gunsmith to widen your rear notch ....and make sure you have the smallest post your can stand. On my Shadow my post is .090" with a green FO and I had my gunsmith widen my rear notch to .35" .....

You need a bit more light on each side of the front sight. The front sight can be narrower, it the rear can be cut wider. Try one or both.

What handgun do you shoot?

I shoot single stack and revolver. One of my revolvers has a standard factory white outline rear matched to a .100 front with a fiber optic. I'm liking this combo more and more, which surprises me after years with a plain black rear sight.
