Mag well bevel - USPSA

I would be interested to know if I can sand the inside of my CZ magwell smooth. I have beat the crap out of it doing reloads, and wouldn't mind running some sand paper over it.

Sanding your magwell is the same as stuffing a mag in it a thousand times. Eventually something will wear off. If you follow up with fine enough paper you won't be able to tell you did it anyway. I would call that more of a repair than a mod.

I believe it was deemed illegal to put paint or the like inside the grip frame to aid reloads because it was a visible external mod.

Then explain a grip plug being legal as long as it does not extend below the grip. I used a glockworx plug in my 34 that added a nice bevel and it was flat on the bottom. Legal.

Because 22.3 says it is? You answered your own question in your response.

Even though I enjoy production, the endless debates about legality of mods gets tiring. Even though it is unlikely to happen it would be nice if the rules could be cleaned up some.

The rules say a bevel is permitted as well. I was simply trying to point out one rule saying you can add a device with a bevel and one rule saying a magwell can be beveled.

If I understand correctly the line painted in the magwell has to do with the restrictions on refinishing providing any competitive advantage and doesn't really have anything to do with the fact that the line was in the mag well.

It would be the same ruling if the line was outside of the magwell.

After a lot of discussion on this over the summer I sent my IPSC gun (CZ-75B) out to Angus and had the mag well filed slightly to put a little bevel on it. Based on rule 22.3, visibility issues were resolved by recoating the entire frame...this was costly however, it essentially creates a visual impression that the entire gun is returned to the stock condition. Not sure that meets 100% of the intent of the rule however, it goes back to strength of enforcement...is there truly any competitive advantage? Well, that's different debate...let me say, no one at IPSC Nats or Production Nats even looked twice at it.

Oh by the way...complete strip down of the frame, filing the mag well and recoating...way too expensive! But boy it sure is cooler...
