Zmego
I want to "build" maybe more like assemble my own 2011 limited gun. I have enough confidence in my smithing ability to risk the minor stuff, however, I would like a competent gunsmith to do the tough stuff. I am looking for someone to do the frame to slide fit and also fitting a bull barrel. Can anyone point me in the direction of someone who could provide these services for me? Glk21C
I believe you can buy sti short block kits to get what you want. Here is an example of one place you could buy it from: http://www.dawsonprecision.com/CategoryProductList.jsp?cat=FRAMES%2FSLIDES+and+TOP+ENDS:Frame+To+Slide+Fits Not sure if a barrel is included, if not there were versions in the past that did include barrel fit Good luck
Glk21C
Oh, Gans guns will do as little or as much as you want. Just send him the parts. He is fast too. http://www.gansguns.com
MikeRush
This is very satisfying if you take your time and research the process. When it comes to things like extractors, ejectors, trigger groups and safeties it helps to start with something complete and then proceed step by step- perhaps by customizing something inexpensive first. AGI videos (can be rented), Brazos articles, and forums are your friend. Jimmy Vidanes of 1911 Speed Shop has done a pair of "short blocks" for me. Glenn Rasch of Lone Star Innovations has also sold short blocks as well. I think DIY really helps you understand your blaster. I'm planning on picking up another. I don't have my mill running yet but having a pro handle the cuts and then going the hand fitting and finishing seems like a good way to go to me. zzt
Slide to frame fit is not difficult, but you need good measuring tools, file(s), stones and a good surface plate and sand paper. If you are only going to do one, it isn't worth the expense. You can buy STI frame kits here: http://www.brownells.com/handgun-parts/frame-parts/frames/slide-frame-kits-prod12448.aspx?avs|Make_3=1911&psize=96or here: https://www.dawsonprecision.com/CategoryProductList.jsp?cat=FRAMES%2FSLIDES+and+TOP+ENDS:Frame+To+Slide+Fits or here for a tighter, lightened version: http://www.1911store.com/slide-to-framefit.aspx For the rest of your parts I'd suggest Brazos, SVI and EGW.
