Tcon260
I would like to purchase a 40 cal throating reamer to set up the freebore for .401 lead bullets. Does anyone have a reamer print or can share the information need to order one (Mfg, diameter, etc)?

Tcon260
I know I can call Manson, and I will. but what diameter you all use for .401 lead bullets?
kamikaze1a
Diameter of the reamer or bullet? The reamer is a set size but the bullets, though usually advertised as .401 bullets often arrive larger...
Tcon260
Ok…my questions is that given a lot of lead bullets come larger than the advertised 0.401". And that no telling what mfg of bullet one will ultimately be using, what is the diameter of the throating reamer that is common for our sport? In other words, what diameter do I want the throat area so that generally speaking any "quality" lead bullet (Bayou, Bear Creek, Blue, etc) will not be hitting the barrel (lands, grooves, or throated area)? Is 0.402" enough? 0.403"? More?
ZombieHunter
I just used the Manson throater for 40. It has the number 712 on the throating attachment itself. It took about three turns, and now every profile of bullet from BBI and Bayou works great. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Toolguy
The throat is not a particular diameter, but a tapered cone shape. You just cut the throat till the bullets you want to use will fit. At some point they will all fit.
shtr3
Why not send the gun back to the builder and let them do this for you. If there is a warranty, it will still be honored if the builder does it instead of a home job.
chanman
Hijacked.. I found a post last the other day but cant locate it anymore. Anywho, someone had sent their barrel and some $ to Beven Grams to be throated. I would like to know how it turned out and if anyone has his contact info?? I tried calling him today but never got him. Is he a member here by chance? OR If someone has a (sharp).40 throating reamer they would like to rent I will do that also..
