Hodgdon H4895

I got some decent results from H4895 in one of my 308's with Remington primers. If I did not have Varget then this would be an option I would consider. 4064 would be another but 4895 meters better.

Look over at 6mmbr.com and see what they have on .308 loads. H4895 and varget are close together in terms of burn rate. H4895 is more consistent lot to lot then varget it. 40-42g H4895 with a 168 bullet was the go to load for highpower shooters for years in M14's so you are in good company.

I have had good luck with H4895 in 30.06 in my Garand. It is one of the first powders I bought when I first got into reloading for rifle and was recommended for 30.06. It is one of the most versatile rifle powders available and will work well for 308.

A year ago I gave up on trying to find Varget but I have to say, lately I have been seeing it on shelves everywhere. Not just small quantities either. Recently at Cabelas they had at least 50lbs on the shelf.

I personally prefer 4895 in my 308.
