Duane Thomas
Also, if the difference between standard pressue Nine and +P+ bothers you that much, it occurs to me that part of the problem might be the noise. Of course, we macho men never want to admit that, but a big muzzle blast can lead to a case of flinchitis. If you're not doing it already, I'd strongly suggest double hearing protection, plugs and muffs.
Duane Thomas
And for $20, you can buy the Book That Started It All from our gracious host. Brian's book is obviously a non-negotiable purchase for the advanced shooter who wants to get really good. My only concern about recommending it this case is that it's rather advanced, and deals mainly with things other than technique. For learning decent technique, I like and recommend Andy Stanford's Surgical Speed Shooting. Here are links to my Amazon.com reviews of both books: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...=books&n=507846 http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/158...1325040-5409601

Duane Thomas
That's actually Doug Koenig, not Robbie. Still good info.
Pierruiggi
That's actually Doug Koenig, not Robbie. Still good info. Nope, the link I posted is Rob Leatham. Perhaps I should make it more evident than an underlined word? http://www.americanshooter.com/Features/features.html
dirtypool40
SecretNY I just wanted to respond to the IDPA "real guns" thing. At the match, you'll shoot the gun YOU brought. No it doesn't have to have a comp or scope. If you look at any results page from a local match, production, L10 and Limited account for about two thirds of entrants. Usually Limited is about half, even without it's "offspring". I shoot an IDPA legal high cap, from an IDPA legal kydex holster. I just like tougher challenges and better shooters I find at an IPSC match. Yes, I have some good friends who shoot IDPA, and it can be fun. That being said in general you will have a better time, and learn more ABOUT SHOOTING by competing in an IPSC match. I have friends that shoot their carry gun, duty rig, revolvers, full on Race guns and everything in between. The match is what you make of it. Learn to shoot A's quickly from a comfortable stance and HAVE FUN. Keep your goal in site and how to achieve it. The more you have fun and feel challenged, instead of brow beat and embarrassed, the more likely you are to come back, to practice, and ultimately to get better. Duane Thomas
Nope, the link I posted is Rob Leatham. No, the link you posted (the first time) was to Doug Koenig. If you look at the link, it even has Koenig's name in it. Your second link posting is to Robbie.
dirtypool40
Don't worry about tactics, defeating Mothra and Rodan, getting attacked by the Seven Samurai in an elevator, or anything else. Focus on The Shooting and everything will work itself out. great, second time this week, I"ve shot my morning coffee out through my nose laughing at a post. dirtypool40
I have always wated to go to an IDPA match with my buddies who ARE real operators, both military and local SWAT. I just an IPSC bum, but I enjoy a laugh. Anyway, I want to wait until they call my name to the line, and then we'll form an "entry stack" to safely escort me to the starting position, scowling and threat scanning all the way. That would bring the house down!!!
Pierruiggi
No, the link you posted (the first time) was to Doug Koenig. If you look at the link, it even has Koenig's name in it. Your second link posting is to Robbie. How weird, in the forum code it shows up that (in that post) the underlined word "Here's" leads to the page featuring Rob Leatham. I quoted 300lbsGorilla who was providing the link to Doug Koenig. I'm confused. Screenshot, linked for size.
Crusher
If you don't feel some fatigue in your "gripper" muscles after a range session, you are probably not doing it right. Heheheh, I have been seen taking "naps" (just as a small break) during lulls in practice sessions. That "practice stuff" is VERY tiring.
rhino
I have always wated to go to an IDPA match with my buddies who ARE real operators, both military and local SWAT. I've been in training classes with guys who were full time SWAT cops in big cities and some of them were ... beyond disappointing. They were slow, inaccurate, couldn't shoot on the move, and I suspect the body of their "tactical" skills were equally lacking. I suspect they (and their teammates) rely heavily on intimidation and the fact that most of the bad people they encounter are even more inept than they are. Crusher
Had an "epiphany" <sp> it may very well be the report of the +p+ causing some of you poor preformance. (recently I have seen this from some who's preformance diminishes with the same firearm and a significant increase in the report ). Try using both the insert AND muff hearing protection and see if your preformance increases GL
