sandrooney
I know hard chrome is a durable finish but does it actually keep the gun from wearing ie does the slide to frame fit stay tighter longer less wear ? Thanks, SR

gunracer38
I have hard chromed every Open Gun by Metaloy. He has been doing this for many years. All my guns look like new and don't jam. We use these pistols in every type of weather.. I felt it was the best finish for my guns.

40S&W
Yes! Hard Chrome is the only way to go. All but one of my (3) 1911's is hard chromes. It is all stainless, but in time I will get the slide hard chromed because over time stainless on stainless will start to gouge. My (3) 2011 guns are all hard chromed. bigstick0000
I have tried a couple of coatings on my guns, ended up staying with hard chrome, hard to beat
SMS2
Great thread........very informative. I have a couple Hard Chromed Limited and Opens as well as a couple in IonBond in each as well. While I prefer the hard chrome for several reason, general wear and aesthetics I was unaware that it played a role in the frame to slide fit remaining tighter over time as the gun wears. This could not have come at a more opportune time as I am in the process of adding another Open. Thanks
