ZackJones
Surprising results with MG 180 JHPs yesterday. I developed a load with the FL Open coming up, could not get PDs', 4.6 e3 with 1.185 OAL Fed SPMM primer got me ~170 PF. Good luck at the FL Open. Let us know what the match chrono says. It would be interesting to see how close our chronographs compare to match chronographs. I'll get a chance to chrono my e3 loads at Alabama Sectional, Area 6, VA/MD Sectional, SC Sectional, NC Sectional and GA State Championship so it'll be interesting to compare all of the results. harleytech
Probably apples oranges, but today I chrono'ed major revolver load for my 646. 3.9 gr of E3, 200 Bayou bullet, Fed SSP , and OAL of 1.162 made 173 PF with ES of 16 and SD of 6. ZackJones
Did another chrono run with e3 and 180g Bayou bullets. Charge was 3.9 grains, individually weighed. First pistol was my M&P Pro - High 935, Low 890, Avg 915 - You need an average of 916 to make major. Not sure why I had that large of a spread in velocities though. Second pistol was Para P16-40 with 5" bull barrel - High 939, Low 911, Avg 921 - Makes major but too close for comfort. I'm going to bump it up to 4.1 or so and try again. Scott_Sweeney
Any new info on E3? I have 16lbs of E3 that I use in .45 major loads and would like to work on a .40 major load with the same powder.

zzt
I load 40 to 172PF for Major and 140-144PF for Minor CCI 500 primer, mixed HS brass, lead 180gr truncated cone bullet @ OAL 1.126". 3.7ge e3 = 172PF. 2.8gr e3 = 140PF. Substitute a slick poly coated 180 TC bullet such as Falcoated and you only need 3.6gr to make 172. Bump that to 3.8-3.9 gr for 180 HiTeck coated bullets such as BBI for 172" 3.4gr e3 with 155 LSWC = 144PF 3.2gr e3 with Xtreme 165 HP-HPCH = 144PF 4.3gr e3 with Rainier 155 TC plated = 155pf Edited March 17, 2016 by zzt
