9mm 6" barrel is a no-go

Something needs some filing :surprise:

I received it this morning and measured it all out. Can't really see any differences other than possibly something different with the barrel lug angle. Did any of you running the 10mm slide mod the 9mm barrel at all?

The 10mm barrel had a nice opening for the stop:

With the 9mm barrel in place I had to go back past the alignment marks to get a nice path for inserting the stop. Also the guide rod is tighter to the bottom hitting on the frame some (real PITA). With it assembled I get this:

How does a 9mm barrel work in a 10mmslide. The breach face is different and the extractor. I know in other platforms certain barrel makers will make conversion barrels for such applications but I know no one making one for Tanfoglio I could be wrong. I went thru this a few years back with converting an XD from 40 to 9 and still had problems with the extractor working properly finally gave up and sold them

After pulling my hair out and swapping tops over and over seeing what was going on.... their is a pad at the top (didn't take a pre photo) that has to be filed to fit barrel movement. Here is the area at the top after I filed for an hour until it would unlock correctly.

I should have thought this one through before going! I kept the normal 20lb spring in I use for 10mm shooting. Bad choice! No problem with how the 9mm shot in with the 10mm upper. Extraction was just fine but ejection was not so good! I started from weakest to strongest and Remington 115gr was hanging the brass every shot. After that I put the little hotter PPU Partizan 115gr through and had one about every other shot but did manage a string of three good ones in a row. My last 9mm round was the screaming Underwood 115gr +P+ and that cycled pretty darn well except I had one that hung up. EAA ships some of the pistols with 11lb and 12lb recoil springs in the case and now I know why! Glad I didn't toss them in the trash and will try again next time with these. In the 6" Hunter shooting even the hottest 9mm you can't get a real fast slide to kick it out properly unless it's extreme 9mm (using this spring at least). Looking forward to trying again with the weakest spring I can find but happy for now!

The 9mm setup worked but the 20lb spring is too much for proper ejection even with the Underwood.

Remington 115gr FMJ Hunter 6": 1166, 1220, 1163, 1160, 1185, 1198. Average = 1182 FPS/ 357 LBS
PPU Partizan 115gr FMJ Hunter 6": 1285, 1231, 1218, 1237, 1215, 1236, 1257. Average = 1239.85 FPS/ 393 LBS
Underwood 115gr Gold Dot +P+ Hunter 6": 1540, 1565, 1532, 1519, 1527, 1530. Average = 1535.5 FPS/ 602 LBS. About a 65 FPS increase over the 4.75" Limited barrel. I guess if you have a 4.5" -4.75" barrel you are getting about all you can out of 9mm rounds.

Trying something different.

9mm 6" barrel in the Limited Pro shooting Federal 115gr@1250 FPS. Functioned great in it with the 11lb spring:

9mm 4.75" barrel in the Elite Limited shooting Federal 115gr@1200 FPS:

10mm 4.75" barrel in the Limited Pro shooting Underwood 180gr@1300 FPS:

Does anyone make a .40 barrel to fit the Hunter? If so it would make a good limited gun. Are Hunters DA or SA? I have seen both descriptions on Gunbroker.
