France Meets the USMC -- or --  A  United States Marine in Bosnia

A funny thing happened to me yesterday at Camp Bondsteel (Bosnia): A French army officer walked up to me in the PX, and told me he thought we (Americans) were a bunch of cowboys and were going to provoke a war. He said if such a thing happens, we wouldn't be able to count on the support of France.

I told him that it didn't surprise me. Since we had come to France's rescue in World War I, World War II, Vietnam, and the Cold War, their ingratitude and jealousy was due to surface at some point in the near future anyway.

That is why France is a third-rate military power with a socialist economy and a bunch of faggots for soldiers.

I additionally told him that America, being a nation of deeds and action, not words, would do whatever it had to do, and France's support was only for show anyway.  Just like in ALL NATO exercises, the US would shoulder 85% of  the burden, as evidenced by the fact that the French officer was shopping in the American PX, and not the other way around.

He began to get belligerent at that point, and I told him if he would like to, I would meet him outside in front of the Burger King and beat his ass in front of the entire Multi-National Brigade East, thus demonstrating that even the smallest American had more fight in him than the average Frenchman.

He called me a barbarian cowboy and walked away in a huff.

With friends like these, who needs enemies?

Not that this isn't funny as hell, but can anyone corroborate this story?

FWIW, I put up with the same sh*t in the UK where I had to listen to know-nothing limeys bitch about Bush being a "war monger."  Sure....as if Tony Blair isn't rattling his sabre either.

I got this in a ring emailing,  not the best source for corroboratin'.  Sorry.

Bob Greene wrote a book titled 'Homecoming: When the soldiers returned from Vietnam'.  In the book he tried to interview soldiers that were actually spit on coming back home in uniform.  He found several that said they had friends that they knew that it had happen to but it didn't happen to them.  Stories like these may be better to hear than to find the truth about.

Thomas Paines' Common Sense may have been little more than the alcohol induced ramblings of a tainted patriot but the contribution to our nations freedom could never be denied.  America is the lump in your throat when you look at the stars and stripes,  the tear in your eye when you think of the burning towers and the reflexive clench of your fist when soldiers die.

Trivial sometimes unprovable writings have inspired many a young man to fight.  Might often the result speak louder than the reason?

Sorry for the ramble,  back to the ruler on the knuckles. And I thought I was getting better!!!

I believe the correct name is propaganda.  LOL!

It's a great story, but it's probably not true.  The Frenchman wasn't trying to get laid!
