Anyone tried the POF Enhanced Finger Placement trigger?

Recommended Posts

I was browsing the Predator Tactical website when I saw this info about the POF EFP Trigger:

http://www.predatort...r-EFP-p455.html

Our new Enhanced Finger Placement (EFP) trigger introduces a forward design that naturally guides the tip of your finger to the same resting place for a precise, smooth, consistant trigger squeeze every single time. This single-stage, non-adjustable, drop-in trigger boasts a solid 4-pound pull weight and is pre-assembled in Hardcoat Anodized aluminum housing (complete with rubber urethane feet) for immediate competition, hunting, and tactical applications right out of the box. Carved from American A2 steel, the Trigger, Disconnect, and Hammer are all Nitride Heat-Treated to 70 Rockwell case hardness for ultimate strength and corrosion resistance.

Includes custom-fit stainless steel KNS Precision™ Anit-walk Pins for both standard AR and POF-USA ambidextrous lower receivers.

Anyone tried one of these? I have always found that the reach to the AR trigger was very short for my rather long fingers. On my AR build, I used a Rite Pull Grip Adapter, but even so, the reach could stand to be a bit longer. Looks like this trigger might really help with that. I would love to try one of these triggers, but since it is brand new, I don't know anyone that has one. Anyone here have one?

FWIW, I played with the sample that POF had at SHOT.

It felt pretty nice, but the sample was just in an aluminum block with no grip on it from what I can recall, so it was a little hard to tell how it would really feel in a rifle.

Great concept though. If I had the spare cash i would have got one to test out.

Spent my money at the show on a Gieselle though, couldn't be any more happy.

I had a Geissele SSA on a DPMS LR-308, and I liked it a lot. I might not like the POF, as I finally noticed that it is a single stage. I really like the look of the trigger blade, as it seems like it would lengthen the reach to the trigger, as well as forcing you to put your finger in the same spot every time, as there is only ONE spot. :)

I'm trying to decide which Geissele to go with, the SSA, SSA-E, or one of the SD models with the flat trigger. It looks like the flat model should have a slightly longer reach than the curved one, which I might like, but I have not used a flat trigger before. My rifle is set up like an SPR, so I am not looking for ultimate speed and ultra-short reset like a 3-gun trigger. I liked the SSA with its short, light first stage, and crisp break. I'm not sure how much lighter I would go on the pull weight, I thought it was pretty darn nice on the SSA.

Still, I am eagerly awaiting reports on the POF EFP trigger. Isn't competition a wonderful thing? :)

Well it came in last night and I put it in.

Initial impressions - just from dry firing it ~25 times (when compared to Gieselle SSA or RRA 2-stage and Milspec single stage trigger)

1. Trigger reach - (I have magpul moe grip on it) - By far the best feature of the trigger. I have L-XL hands (can palm a baskettball) with this trigger it puts it right in the sweet spot either your 1st finger joint or pad of your finger. It's going to be hard to change back. After handling it and dry firing, Normal triggers make me feel like I am "hunching" my hand to make it fit the smaller areas

2. Trigger pull - it's a 4.5 trigger and yes it feel like it. Especially when compared to 2-stage triggers where they break up the pull weight. Without actually running some rounds through it I will say that it will take some "concious" effort to fire the rifle - not the same as the lighter weight or 2 stage triggers that you pull until it supprises you.

3. Single stage crispness - When compared to all of the triggers I have tried I would say the crispness (without comparing them side by side) would have to be equal to the Gieselle SSA

4. Trigger reset - This is my second favorite part so far of the trigger - by far the shortest reset of any trigger I have owned (Have not tried CMC or Gieselle 3G or Timney etc..)

Overall I am very pleased with this purchase but I will reserve final judgement until I have shot it (hopefully 500 rds this weekend), I will say it has 2 small detractors which might change after shooting it this weekend

1. grittiness - I haven't lubed it at all and there is a little grittiness that my Gieselle doesn't have and in all fairness it might be due to it being new or no lube

2. Trigger weight - While I love the single state and understand the reliability of the 4.5 lb trigger weight I would like to see a 3.5 lb trigger and after shooting a few hundred rounds my opinion might change once I get used to shooting a single stage trigger again.

So far I would rate this trigger a 8 out of 10 on triggers and better than any I have owned so far.

Thanks for the report! Wow, now I have to find a way to try one! I really like a 2-stage trigger, but the reach issue is really big. I think I could get used to the single stage. Looking forward to the range report!

POF was the main Sponsor at SMM3G 2013 and there were quite a few of the ECP and regular POF match triggers generously given by POF. Hopefully there will be a few reports out once people get to try them.

Disclaimer: This thread isnt that old that I feel I am necro posting.

Also, MANY THANKS to Stre-tch for his review. Ohhh, I get your user name, now...OK... :)

Arnie, I have big hands/long fingers too. I really dont want any contraptions that extend my reach at the grip. I have a Geislle 3 Gun SD trigger I dont want to give up. I have the same over reach issues as you do. But that can be fixed fairly easily with the FLAT SD triggers by a method I devised. BTW, the SD triggers take NO getting used to. The 3 gun trigger is a hybrid 2 stage. Its hard to explain. There is not much of a first stage, but it does exist. It is enough that I have no qualms using it in just about any situation except sniping. I consider it to be an excellent combat trigger..for me anyways. Its not a scary light trigger at all.

So, listen. You might want to do what I am going to do. I am going to get my machinist to make me a 7mm(approx) thick bar of steel or aluminum that we will attach some how to the trigger bow....either with tiny flat head screws or tack weld or even JB weld wich really would be permanant. I can have it painted after. The extra thickness (the exact thickness is yet to be determined) will place my finger exactly on the PAD. I will experiment until i get the exact right thickness of course.

That trigger will go in my 18inch fluted barrel 3 gun build. In its place on my 14.5 inch barrel piston ARl, I am pretty sure I will get the new POF EFP trigger. I fell in love with it when I first saw it a few days ago. From this thread, now I know it is also a great performing trigger. So, that seals the deal. I dont think the POF, however would make near as good a 3 gun triger as the Geislle SD 3 Gun. It is a hybrid 2 stage at 4.5lbs. it is so smooth it feels like a whole lot less. You can fire it so fast that your gun sounds like a full auto. I think my idea of an add on trimmed metal shim will work quite well.

ONE other trigger i MAY get is the Chip McCormick modular. It has a flat bow. First I want to make certain my modification shim to my SD Geiselle will work. I am 99% certain it will be perfect. I want the POF AND the Mc Cormick actually. I need to buld a third AR15 I giuess!

Dont know what to do with your big old clumsy finger when in the "ready" mode? Buy and install one of these:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005EIMD7G/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It is so DIRT cheap, that if you dont like it, you can give it to some one else. Me, persaonally? I always wanted a precise rest for my finger. It looks like a silly thing, but I bet anyone who uses it loves it.. Besides having a rest for your finger in the "ready" position, it is a very nice trigger gaurd as well. I only bring this up becasue it ties into "guys with big hands".

One more tip. Cheap lifetime supply of grease used for Geissle 3 gun triiggers is here for only 6 bux. It is Aeroshell #6. Note, he alos used a mobile brand for some of his OTHER triggers. I know areoshell #6 is used for his 3 Gun triggers: Atually, it is enoughfor 100 lifetimes, LOL.

I got an EFP trigger at SMM3G and sent it back to POF for the standard trigger. The pad was too small and with the Ergo grip, the reach became too long. I can see how it gives a better fit with a stock pistol grip though.

POF was great to deal with and sent me the replacement on their dime. The trigger is in one of my ARs and I have since put a few into some LEO friends ARs.

Your post makes me want this trigger even more now. I NEED a long reach. I was wondering if the long reach was an illusion or reality. According to you, it IS a goodly distance to get to with your finger. Great..except the price. I wish this was more in line with CMC modular trigger at 160 to 175usd. I see NO discounts anywhere. ONLY POF has them in stock unless someone knows where to find them eleswhere. It is too new to see discounts just yet. 230usd plus shipping is up there with Giessle's finest. Well, at least I will not have to modify this one. I am going to buy it. Will report findings.

It certainly does what it says. It is an effective way to get better finger placement if you need such.

YES!!!! This is SO correct.

I GOT the darn thing. I can SEE how an Ego grip could make this trigger too long of a reach for some. But my hand is so large that I need the magpul MIAD with the LARGEST palm swell AND the EFP trigger to make that match in heaven...PERFECTION. I have NEVER been able to place the PAD pf my index finger on a trigger bow on an AR 15..until now. I just LOVE IT!!!

I am a bit freaked out over the SINGLE STAGE robot like break. Its hard to explain. The Geissle 3 Gun SD hybrid 2 stage is VERY "organic" for lack of a better word. The POF is ...remote...disengaged. I don't THINK that is a BAD thing..yet, anyways. It is just VERY DIFFERENT. I am getting USED to it. I did not like the 4lb break. Its so different than my Geissle 2 stage 4lb break. So, I bent some spring a little(its reversible) and got a 3.4lb break. I am using the SAME Shell #6 aviation grease as Geisslle uses in his 3 GUN line of triggers. I am going to try Neco black super high moly content grease to see how that is any different. Different grease can really change the 'FEEL" of a precesion trigger like the POF.

Any advice guys? (other than shorter posts. Hey, sorry. I am in listening mode now. You guys discuss this trigger and its best uses)

I took my 3 Gun Trigger and transplanted it to my new THREE GUN, an 18" SS FLUTED 31 ounce barrel, Carbon Fiber fore arm(six ounces), Carbon Poly upper and lower, 3.5 ounce carrier, one ounce buffer, reduced gas flow, flat shooter that uses "puppy farts" to cycle the action. 5.85 lbs WITH an optic.

The POF trigger is not really in a ideal home (Or is it?). I need a lot of advice on how to best utilize what I have. The POF EFP is in very light weight M4rgery...6.3lbs plus depending on optic. 14.5" DD pencil barrel(very accurate..1.25 MOA),, Samson EVO forearm with custom extension. this is an AA PISTON gun with a converted to piston use JP LOW MASS CARRIER...2.5 ounce buffer (built in with the JP Captrued Spring System). Goat fartas power this beast. low recoil and no muzzle flip. NOT used for home defense. NOT used for offensive. Just a plinker and also a tactical gun used in educational settings.

I have a very firm SHELF to rest my finger during any 'RUN AND GUN". If that does not wrk well with the 3.4 lb break then I wil fix that.

I think I can make it work and still be safe with the ergos that this gun has, plus my SITUATIONAL AWARENESS! This still remains to be seen.

This trigger guard will be milled to it fits in place perfectly: http://www.amazon.com/Strike-Industries-Series-Trigger-Guards/dp/B005EIMD7G

click on the link to see the SECURE finger placement SHELF I have been talking about.

I have one of the POF enhanced finger placement triggers from a prize table and I am not planning on using it. I like POF but I am a JP trigger person.

If anyone is interested in this trigger send me an E-Mail to JLSCOTT2@charter.net $200.00 and I'll pay the shipping.

Thank You,

Jeff

The Trigger sold.

Thank You,

Hi Jeff,

I'm not trying to be the "police", but this may have slipped past the moderators. I recall this not being allowed under the Guidelines. Selling outside the Classifieds and under 50 posts.

They are here: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?app=forums&module=extras&section=boardrules

My understanding is that sales or purchases are to happen over in Classifieds. And to have access to that board you need to have at least 50 posts of meaningful content. If I'm incorrect, I apologize. My intent is to ensure a new member doesn't inadvertently run afoul of forum rules.

I would like to keep this post going to spread the word on the awesomeness of this trigger.

Let me clarify some things. As far as just triggers go, a JP trigger is likely better than the POF EFP trigger. Many say the JP is better than a Geissele.

But the POF will do something that no other trigger will do (that I know of). And that is align the pad of the index finger to the trigger bow with a shooter who has huge hands and long fingers. Yes, a bigger pistol grip will help.

I cant palm a basket ball, but I am an XL when I buy gloves. So far, every trigger I have used on an AR15 has been located in a spot where I just cant get a good squeeze. My finger always seems to curve around the trigger bow. I did find that the combo of the Ergo LARGE pisto, grip and the POF EFP trigger finally gave me that sweet spot where everything for the very first time seems located perfectly.

I ended up buying a new smaller grip, the Hogue with a beaver tail and finger grips. I still have a great hand and finger postion and much more over all control of the weapon than I ever did with the ERGO. That large Egro is just a beast. Only shooters with the absolute most giant hands will find this a better choice than the Hogue. This is s subjective report for shooters with hand size similar to mine.

Once you have the right grip the single stage trigger does take some getting used to. I have only used 2 stage and my SD 3 gun is a Hybrid 2 stage. But after a lot of trigger pulls, I love my new single stage POF. Word of warning. If you go to dissasemble it, take out the hammer ONLY. Reassmbling the lower trigegr group on your own is a bit of a night mare. It can be done..eventualy...

Bending the hammer springs is a perfect way to get a perfect 3.4 lbs break.NO take up. NO creep, NO gritiness, fastest ever reset. The real gem of the whole thing is the trigger shape and ergonnomics.

Buy and use this trigger in good failth and knowledge that it should never let you down.

If you want to move your finger back, try a Stark grip. Best thing since slice bread.

Truth right there. Also since it lowers your grip slightly, the safety is easier to manipulate and there is less trigger finger fatigue since your actuating straight back. I can run any grip out there and I have 4 starks and one of their forward grips as well.

Great stuff.

Stark Grips are incredibly ugly. So is my alternative,,but less so IMO. It is sort of a compromise in looks but no compromise in performance. Not at all. Its David Tubbs. UP TIGHT grip. Very pricey but hugely effective!

Read a copy and paste my reviewe of the POF EFP trgger. I include my mention and LINK to the "UP TIGHT" Grip!

Update on this incredible trigger! At 3.2 lbs, this is such a dream to shoot. The reset is shorter than my VERY short Geissele SD 3 Gun trigger. That is saying something. The reset is a (blank) hair... just a mm or two...amazing.

There is still NO take up, creep or grittiness. It breaks like an icicle. My Geiselle breaks like a carrot. Its so hard to say I prefer one over the other. Suffice to say, they are just different. They are both scathingly fast triggers. At the end of the day, the more expensive Geissle probably edges the POF out. But I would not change a thing. I like the POF right where it is for now..on my competition M4 14.5" DD pencil barrel, 6 lb light weight carbine..all hand built by me.

The placement of the finger is so perfect for guys like me with big hands. I have never in all my years experienced a PROPER finger placement. What an incredible experience! "Life changing" you could say.

To get my lower (3.2-3.4lb) trigger break weight was easy (stock was 4.5lbs)..I did some just some minor tweaking (bending)of the existing springs and proper lube with Shell number 6 Aviation grease(Areoshell), the exact type that Mr G uses for his 3 Gun triggers. It took only minutes. LOL..do NOT take both of the trigger slip fit bushings out of the module. You will have HELL to pay to try and get those put back in... OMG!! it IS possible, but nothing you would ever want to do even once. It is NOT necessary either. That is the shame of the situation for me...face palm.

EDIT #2: If anyone knows of a different way, LMK. But for regular triggers, this grip seems to work the best of any grips. its ugly and expensive, but it works. Watch the video.Guys with BIG HANDS and long fingers like me! Or get ONLY the POF EGP triger for all builds...

http://www.davidtubb.com/ar-15-up-tight-composite-grip-black

EDIT!!!: I tried over six diffident grips with this specific trigger. I recommend this Hogue grip for guys with big hands ONLY if it is paired with THE POF EFP trigger.

http://www.amazon.com/Hogue-Rubber-Beavertail-Finger-Grooves/dp/B007LUUIAO/ref=pd_sbs_sg_1

It is the perfect companion. Trust me. Yes, i tried the MagPull MOE grip with the LARGE insert. Yes, that combination wortked well...great as a matter of fact. But still...the MagPull was .second best. I liked the HOGUE better...much better.
