A FEW STRONG THUNDERSTORMS COULD AFFECT PORTIONS OF SOUTH

MISSISSIPPI LATER ON SATURDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT. INCREASING SOUTHERLY WINDS WILL BRING UNSTABLE GULF AIR INTO THE LOWER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY AND HELP FUEL STRONG THUNDERSTORMS. THE STRONGER STORMS SHOULD STAY GENERALLY ALONG AND SOUTH OF THE HIGHWAY 84 CORRIDOR WITH TORRENTIAL RAINS AND GUSTY WINDS TO 40 MPH.

We'll get to squeeze in shooting in between squalls hopefully. It'll be big fun. I had a blast shooting Area 4 this year. The rain adds a different dimension to the experience.

Standing in the middle of a big flat open area holding a metal object during a severe thunderstorm is probably tempting fate just a bit too much. :o I'll be seeking shelter when the lightning comes.

Maybe I should go get my waders out of the attic :D:D:D

We have been getting pounded by the system all day ... I"m about 200 miles due west of Jackson. Looking forward to driving through the torrential rains on the way there this afternoon.

It is raining, but we are shooting. The rain is tropical strorm Matthew. Actually stayed on schedule at the stage I am working. Some squads got ahead of schedule. Hopefully the thunderstorms will stay away on Sunday.

i just got back from the Mississippi River Classic. man what a match. the only time it stopped raining was when we broke for lunch. (no kidding) this was my first big match where it rained the whole time.

the main things i learn are:

1. just deal with the rain and do your best.

2. spraying the targets with lacqure does work. the tape sticks, the targets last much longer and bags aren't needed.

3. take more hotel towels to the range..dry hands good.

4. good rain gear is worth the money. those frog skin things look like a great buy.

5. get better boots for the mud.

6. shooting in the rain really does blow chucks.

i can't wait for area 2.

all in all the MS match was fun.

OK so we had the:

Area-6 swim

Area-4 flood <_<

Tennessee underwater sectional :(

and now the:

Mississippi Monsoon

Matt, Loyd Landry won L-10

Well it only goes to show you that if you need rain schedule a major match, the guys down there in Jackson had been a month without rain.

John, and Bryant did an exelent job of getting ready for the rain, they lined up some laquer and sprayed the targets with it and made the little rain covers as seen in Front sight and it all worked out really well.

Bryant made the decision right away to remove any type movers that would be effected by the rain as not to have any stages thrown out later in the match as what happened at Area-4.

Myself and Mike McArthur R/O ed stage 8 Hoser Heaven it had 10 steel and 3 static targets and 2 swingers and the name kind of fit as you could "hose" down the steel and the statics but there was just a little hard cover and No shoots to deal with so you could not just go wide open there had to be some control.

Blake had the fastest run on the stage: 12.?? and the most seen time was 18+

Until this match I have never shot, and RO ed in the rain the entire match and I hope that doesn't happen again for a long while.

To the shooters, Thanks for helping reset and tape targets, There were 8 squads I ran them all through on Saturday and I only had to ask for help on one squad( wouldn't it be the largest squad though).

I did not hear any whinning or complaining about the match itself or the stages but there were some comments about the MONSOON.

As was expected by me, from looking at the stage diagrams and remembering last year it was a very straight up match and quite the limited gun friendly match.

Mr. and Mrs. Miculek showed up and demonstrated the proper way to shoot a match in the rain as they usually do( rain or not) and I was glad to see them again as they are as good as they come.

Enough Said, GREAT Job John and Bryant and all the others behind the scenes for those who missed it, I am sorry you did even though it did get a little damp

I have to admit ROing in the rain was different. I did notice one thing on my stage (Stage 3) -- good shooters are good shooters regardless of the conditions. The fastest production time was Matthew Mink, and he shot during the worst of Sunday's rain. The times posted seemed unaffected by the rain. For the most part, the shooters were very helpful in resetting the stage, which was important since I had 3 steel and 18 paper. I might disagree with Hopalong -- I thought it was a balanced match rather than Limited-friendly. It was great meeting Sam and the other BE'rs

scooterj,

Wish you could have been there with your open blaster. What a sight to see all those rain drops get blown into a fine mist when those open guns went off, especially when the compensators were stuck right into the waterfalls on stage 1.

Well, It's a week later and I feel pretty good that my leather goods aren't going to turn green and the front sight isn't going to rust off the gun barrel.

Bryant,

it was a very well run match. I had a blast and I suspect that the crew I shoot with will be back next year.

We will chant all year....."No Rain, No Rain"

Thanks again to John Heiter for getting the stats out so fast again.

Oh yeah, I forgot on the previous posts so here goes

To the BE.com ers the ones who introduced themselves that I had not met yet like DAJERREL and his crew he brought with him it is always good to meet some others and put a face with some kind of name. Thanks for introducing yourselves and those whom I already knew (some only after getting the cobwebs out of the way) good to se you and sorry if I could not remember all of you as I can mostly remember fish swimming by.

Bryant and John, see you next year.
