That's not typical of black powder as far as I remember. Seems like a blockage of some kind. We used to really stoke our muzzleloaders back in the day. They just made more noise and sometimes blew powder out the muzzle.

Looked like he was using one of the substitutes. Not too sure about them for pressures. He could have double charged it or did not get the ball firmly seated on the charge (think obstructed bore). Not a good thing.

Where was his ram rod? :surprise:

I noticed that too, It was not in the thimbles under the barrel, On the other hand, I HAVE seen the ramrod LAUNCHED down range like an arrow, if forgotten in the heat of competition :devil:
